Depends on your work but either a 3 ton or 2 ton high tip

I always ran a 2.5 ton thwaites with our 2.5ton cat, it was exactly the same footprint..
have a 3 ton dumper now and it goes well with anything from 2 ton to a 5ton machine

I run a 1.5t dumper, pairs well with both my machines. Can always hire a bigger one cheap enough if needed

1.5 hi swivel is a awesome tool but if it's a hire job a 3t swivel will be your only realistic option

I’ve just bought a 2 ton Thwaites. I wanted is specifically as it will fit into my plant trailer GH105. But also it’s exactly the same width as my 2.8tonner 1460mm. Many paths I work down a 3 ton one is too big so 2 ton will go down nicely whilst being more productive then the 1 tons I hire in. It will also work well with both the 2.8 and 1.8, even the 5 tonner if push comes to shove.
Also the 3 ton weighs that much more, so yet another lump for towing around so was quite keen on something a bit lighter to nip around the place. My theory is if it’s too much earthmoving for a 2 ton, I’d hire a 6 or 9 ton anyway as they’re pretty cheap to hire.

Retirement- now I hadn’t thought of that! Perhaps a few more years required to scrape together a measly pension . I don’t have any pics of the dumper yet as it’s at the dealers being given a once over- its pretty old 2005 but looks quite tidy and frankly 2 ton dumpers are hens teeth let alone at the right money.

But then you have your tracked dumper so makes sense to have one at each end of the scale. A 2 ton you might find too similar in size to your tracked one..

That was my thinking, plus the 3t was a local bargain.

Are there any other contractors locally that you could team up with for a few jobs? Profit share? Say 60/40 in favour of who brought the job in? I used to do this with a mate.

Is your 2 tone thwaites a manual or auto

Mine fits in my ifor williams tipper its snug and sits very high but fits

Ive got 3t and 9t dumpers its all about whats around at the time and how much material there is to be moved we can load the 3t with the micro digger so thats a bonus on some jobs
