see how I get on with an initial creation ... will be a watch this space job for a while though, but there ain't a lot to it, for sure ... one of the easier designs to replicate, that I've seen of late and just 'looks right'

Jock Bryce does a big hitter for poking strainer posts straight in.
He was up in our workshop a good few years ago and we fitted the first rock spike to his machine, they are pretty much fitted as standard now. I like the look of the big hole poker they have, neet idea.

Hmm I looked at those once and deduced they were awful! Went and looked at them being manufactured. Every time the weight goes up and down the boom is bouncing around dreadfully and the shock goes right through the machine .

Yeah Bryce stuff is top notch, very much aimed at the contractor though where speed is essential- hence 400-500kg hammers etc. in reality a 200kg will get most things in the ground if conditions allow- anything heavier than that just does the same thing quicker.

yup, they look s**t. I have their earlier design which works great- open mast.

They obviously decided to focus on the 'totally safe' marketing. Which makes the machine useless. Same old same old.

looks bigger than 100 x 50 RHS ..
possibly 120 x 60 or even 160 x 80 ..
nothing to scale off , but think the latter is most likely, looking at the rad. on the section's corners...
looked square in the other pix ....
very simple design to replicate ...
might have a go at one of them, when the weather picks up a bit ...
have saved the pix, save looking for them again.
What size M/c is that sat on there ?
guessing the nylon rope is circa 25 mm, looking at the hose which looks like 1/2" ?

I actually have a couple of chunks of 160 x 80 x 8mm RHS here ... but use them on the forks for extensions ... might have to have a re-design
also like the sound of a hydraulic foot, mentioned by some one else, as a support .. would also aid 'getting about' too possibly

It's on a 1.8t machine. I really would be surprised if it was any bigger than 100x50- I would measure but as luck would have it I lent it to Rory about 6 months ago

I don't know how much the whole thing weighs- the 216 can borderline pick it up at full stretch- I'd guess around 240kg all in. Happy to provide dimensions if it helps with you project- think the trickiest bit is getting the maths right with the ram and pulleys etc- so that the ram has the right length to get the weight to the top of the mast.

The protech on the bigger machine is even simpler design. Just a box section mast, and the weight slides up and down the box- will see if I have a pic somewhere...
