Here's the one on my 1.8t (130kg weight) if you look at the chains from the bottom of the mast to the post cap what happens is the weight of the knocker is transferred to the post when you lightly press on the post with the digger. Makes the whole thing more steady when your knocking it in and you just follow the post in as you knock it much like you would with a breaker driver etc

The one I played with briefly had a hydraulic telescopic foot for stability.

I thought you had a pneumatic tamper?? Or is it still the case even with it.
Watched some old boys fencing with the skidsteer version of your Sherpa once. Auger and forks on it and a hand held hydraulic tamper for setting them. And a pair of folding chairs to sit on for most the day and smoke. Looked a really relaxing day tbh.
Complete with beer holders and suddenly fencing seems quite appealing.

interesting build on that knocker ;) .... not seen one on box section before  ... is that 1002 or 1202 main column @Storrsy ... what circuit do you run that off ??

It really depends on your ground conditions. Decent soil and it will knock more or less anything in to 3-4ft no probs. I'm generally impressed with it's performance though rather than disappointed, as Doobin alluded to anything which removes the need for tamping and tennis elbow is a good thing. There is a bit of a knack to getting a good job out of it. But I've done plenty with mine and feel like the quality of erection is just as good as any I've seen done by a dedicated tracked knocker- not quite as quick for sure but the ability to get into awkward corners down bankings over ditches makes it so versatile.
I'd pick up 350kg with your Kubota and see how it handles it at far reach baring in mind the weight is out beyond the bucket pins you generally use it at about 2/3rds reach to get the height onto strainers etc- the Tak is 2.8t but has a really solid counterweight, I've seen plenty on a Kubota 027 and kx 61 so sure they will be ok. Could get a lesser weight like 150kg worse case...

Another option- perhaps for your Volvo and how i started out with it all is to have a smaller knocker for the 1.8t (cheaper). I used to pre drill the strainers with a 4" auger bit as a pilot hole and then generally it'd knock strainers in and intermediate stakes were fine- but tbh as you have the kubota or hitachi best to put it on one of them with a decent hammer weight- i had the protech p220 with a 300kg weight on my old 5 tonner and that thing was a beast!
I have the P180 on my Kx71-3. We are predominantly clay soil around here with the odd layer of river (glacier) gravel. Very rare that I need to pilot hole but have done so when using telegraph Poles as Strainers, sometimes it has been just to get the pole in the ground as I am often fencing on my own. Protech is just down the road from me.

I have a pneumatic tamper but they’re not really available off the shelf. I only dig and tamp where you can’t knock (cleft chestnut etc).

Not sure of dimensions, at a guess looks like a 2x4" rectangular profile. I saw them being sold for compact tractor with full length mast etc and I really liked the design of pulling the weight up as you can hitch it inline with the dipper arm ajd the mechanism doesn't foul on the dipper as it would be more inclined to do if using a traditional lever arm to raise the weight etc so I asked them if they could chop the mast down and make one to go on digger and has worked well- runs of single acting circuit. So weight falling sends the oil back through the valve block- it's not a direct return back to tank.

Crikey is that what they cost now for full spec models? When I was doing alot of agri fencing 10 years ago I was looking at the then top end Bryce Sumas and they were around £15k at the time with rock spike kit etc.
I think the Bryce Suma is about 19k now tractor mounted with rock spike.

They also do a tracked setup which is over £50k now I believe, another mate is about to sell his as has had enough of fencing.

Speaking of fencing - someone I know just asked for a quote for 45m of rigid mesh fencing like this - access good just a L shape piece to divide a garden - materials about 1500€.
What do you reckon price wise ?

One of my customers just had 90 meters of similar fence, I think it was 2.4 m high but no gravel board and had a pedestrian gate cost was 10k

We did some of that , used box section posts with beefy security bolts. Was surprisingly tough and difficult to climb. Be my second choice after galv palisade if you needed it to look better.
Dad's considering it for back of his as he has a park behind and they've decided to build some "affordable" houses next it 🤬🤬

thanks for that extra pic...
looks bigger than 100 x 50 RHS ..
possibly 120 x 60 or even 160 x 80 ..
nothing to scale off , but think the latter is most likely, looking at the rad. on the section's corners...
looked square in the other pix ....
very simple design to replicate ...
might have a go at one of them, when the weather picks up a bit ...
have saved the pix, save looking for them again.
What size M/c is that sat on there ?
guessing the nylon rope is circa 25 mm, looking at the hose which looks like 1/2" ?

I actually have a couple of chunks of 160 x 80 x 8mm RHS here ... but use them on the forks for extensions :( ... might have to have a re-design :giggle:
also like the sound of a hydraulic foot, mentioned by some one else, as a support .. would also aid 'getting about' too possibly :unsure:

I've seen that stuff in the past - Brundles might even do it or similar ... you won't be knocking them posts in  ... look pretty flimsy from memory

see how I get on with an initial creation ... will be a watch this space job for a while though, but there ain't a lot to it, for sure ... one of the easier designs to replicate, that I've seen of late and just 'looks right' (y)

Don’t think they need to be knocked in they only allow for about 600 mm in the ground any way
