and on a slightly different theme ... in the same cupboard ... bought off me scrappy years ago (" this any use to you Gra?" )... awesome nut rattler/bolt snapper and usually started first pull, but'll need a bit of TLC now I dare say .... not used in a very long time .. and bloody heavy

was great for cracking crane wheel nuts when you couldn't get a windy gun to it ........ and rattling 'em off/on ... right handful though

I can’t decided if £100ish on a non genuine rebuild kit is money down the drain.
Don’t really fancy the new one at £600ish

I got 10 year out of a £38 chinese piston and barrel on a partner. I probably tuned it a little too far as if used for any duration you had to hold it back a little on the throttle or it would get hot and start dying but it had more go than builder mates new one

Makita petrol... reliable after 4 years. Also a 110v 14inch wet saw which is quite good. Starts every time as well!

I’ve got 3 ts400, 2xts410, 1x420 and 1xk1250 16” partner, got two of the ts400 listed for sale on Facebook at £200 each but so many time wasters.

Just got the DEWALT 230mm battery saw only cut one natural stone but seem to do the job even with an old blade.

Dads got makitas petrol ones I don’t like them feel big and bulky and heavy compared to top handle stihls.

I rebuild all mine so always start first time and have feet and water taps etc, got a big box of spares and always have few recoils built up ready to go.

The ts420 with a pulvex diamond blade is a real weapon

If you’re not bothered about the elastastart handle use strimmer cord.
I was on a couple of cords a year on our Wacker and prob more on our 410.
haven’t changed a cord since.
Thanks to my old man that one.

I'm in the market for a new battery disc cutter, any recommendations?

I have a TS410 already, but fed up with the noise and fumes in confined spaces. It gets used a lot for cutting into existing clay drainage for new connections, no fun at all being in manhole/trench get blasted with 2 stroke exhaust.

It also won't cut 4" salt glaze in 1 hit - thought about going up to TS420 to get more depth but same issue with fumes.

I'm after a small battery SDS max breaker to go alongside it too (for breaking concrete off pipes etc.) so I can do most drainage off battery rather than 110v and 2 stroke.

I have Makita 18v battery kit so in theory that would be the logical brand choice but just checked and the twin 18v cutter only goes to 230mm which is no real use to me, I rarely cut slabs/bricks. Might be used for rebar but that's it.

Anyone used the below tools?

Double check the specs as I think the 230mm saw has a deeper cut capacity than a ts410.

It does, and it’s a brilliant saw. But still won’t have the capacity that @groundworker is looking for. The 40v saw looks a real weapon, but not tried one myself.

I’ve the ts420 with 14” blade handy for kerbs etc but still fuel fumes etc

Got the DEWALT 230mm saw handy for little jobs and light and easier enough to cut your way in and with a 5” grinder as well can get a smooth cut with a few cuts

Thrown a few bids in the past at hydraulic saws but always gone for silly money

That makita looks good, I’m so far into DEWALT can’t really change now but hoping they bring out a bigger battery saw

I run some dewalt 54v kit and it’s impressive. I balked at the prices when it was new out , but now prices have become more realistic. When the petrol Makita dies I’ll probably replace with a Dewalt cordless one.
We have the 54v SDS and that’s a beast. I expect the SDS max would be even better!

I have a fair bit of 40v kit and its all good plenty of power. We have 1 bit of 80v which is a strimmer and can get round half a 1acre paddock on 2 4ah batteries. I love the look of the disc cutter and breakers, the only thing id say about the disc cutter is in the videos ive watched it does look very bulky. Hilti now have a very nice looking battery disc cutter but is blady expensive as hilti always is.

I really rate the dewalt 54v gear, I haven’t a disc cutter but I’ll be buying one the next time it’s a cold morning and the Stihl saw won’t fire up!! I’ve same breaker as Giles and it’s a beast, you don’t want to drill many holes at head height as you soon get arm ache
