What are peaple paying for grab loads?

Looking to start offering grab hire, a local bloke is charging £200 a load ( 8 wheeler) god knows how he is making money when its 9 miles to the nearest tip. What are peaple paying to get rid of clay? I may offer mixed waste services with the grab but limit the weight to two tonnes max in discussions with a local skip company for tipping looking at £150 plus vat a tonne . Just an idea at this stage but been thinking about it a while now.

I charge myself £100+vat for 2 ton of whatever

Varies between £310 to £360 in Sussex. Tips are few and far between.

I charge £180 to £220 per load (4wheel grab) locally the 8w are £210 to £240.

But you can only go on your area to determine prices as regionally the difference is huge.

Tipping is where you make or loose. Finding a good tip is hard, finding a cheap tip is always millions of miles away, finding a tip that won't ban you because you've 2 grass sods in is hard.

Green waste is nice money maker.

Mixed waste, isn't nice to get rid of. Folks can get an 8yd skip for £240 and Wang owt they want in it, if I take the same shite in to the exact same place its over £300pt to tip and that not factoring time/derv ect. So how these skip boys make that pay who knows.

Skip players make money on the law of averages and even then it only works with your own transfer station.

Issue with mixed waste is the unmentionables.... A skip firm with a transfer station can play the game and either get a customer to collect the tyre/gas bottle/fridge or charge a fortune.

A independent with grab or similar doesn't have that luxury.... And a few dud loads tend to get you banned.

Fyi skips don't make money on mixed waste over around 500kg believe it or not.

Surely you just sub work to the local cheap guy and don’t invest in the kit yourself if that’s ultimately what you’ll be competing against?

Independent with one truck around here is £250 on 8w for clean soil/subsoil. Usually £200 for hardcore. The bigger companies are another £50 a load. None of them take mixed waste!!
Even on the small building work I do sorting waste saves money. I am lucky that I can bring brick/block to add to the farm pile. Topsoil comes back. Clay goes away. Plasterboard gets kept and taken to waste transfer station. Skip the rubbish.

The average is £60 to £80pt for green waste tipping. 1t usually been the minimum charge.

The customer has to pay the price at the end of the day, if they want it gone.

Years ago I worked for a blokes who set up a green waste recycling site in Bromley. Admittedly it got a bit out of control, but the local council absolutely gunner for him to be shut down. Completely and utterly wrong of them. They should have worked with him as he was cheap enough for travellers to use him rather than fly tipping. Instead they ensured that the only tip site they would use was closed down.
