It started as looking for a cheap ish generator and i fancied a bit extra..
Loads of annoying power cuts round these parts lately
get 'em all the time too .... 's why I bought a UPS for the 'puter ... rarely off more than 5 or 10 minutes, but bloody annoying ... got a little 2.5kva Hodna to run the boiler, if it's off for an hour and if it's gonna be off any longer SSE/SWALEC/ national grid/whatever they're called this week, bring me a genny to keep me drugs refrigerated.
plus always got me 32 kva 3 ph if I need to ..... 300 litre tank'd keep it going for an hour or two

@Stroppymonkey what did you buy after?
Not done it yet. Busy with groundwork’s and shed erection currently. I bodged the containers up with lead and flash banding :)
It’s on the list, I’ve missed a couple of FB bargains. My grandads welding bench he built in the 70s is up in Dads barn loft and I’ve called dibs on it.
I will get welding again …. But it’s in the queue.

Only when specified. It's sh*t trying to weld a Matt together may be ok on vertical stretches. But dealing with the leads will waste more time than tying as they get snagged constantly.
Good shout

8hp Genny will run the little welder at about 70amps without struggling. Not sure what output. German not Chinese :) good enough to tack stuff together at a push.
Will probably blow the PCB or something soon 🤔

I hate to be that guy but…

That second pic looks an awful lot like something I saw in another thread with the words ‘scissor lift axle’ nearby.

Please tell me that’s not a part that if it fails sends the machine sideways. 8hp is enough to spray some pigeon s**t on when coupled with a transformer welder. It’s nowhere near enough to weld properly.

Nooo. The pigeon s**t is just to hold the top washer on that holds the cross pin in situ. Nothing structural about it. Hang on.. I’ve got a photo that will explain. Someone has been pissing about with it in past. Kingpin was snapped off and the welded top washer had been cut about.

8 hp is enough to run a single phase welder. I’ve run 4.00mm 7018 rods off a 5 hp generator and at the risk of sounding a pr##k, my welds aren’t pigeon s**t. A transformer welder isn’t so great off a genny, but a genny safe inverter will do quite a lot.
