Probably seems best to string up a 6mm flex for the next year or 2 and buy a £500 ish little welder like the links above. Got Welder Generators on my search settings and a Harrington Spitfire unit has popped up down in Cornwall. Someone has taken time to give it a coat of paint. Cant find much about them on tinterweb.

Harrington generators were local to me, don’t know what happened tbh they just seemed to suddenly close (maybe retired? 🤷🏻‍♂️)

The one in photo doesn't look massively overpriced based on that viewpoint.

That must be an early Harrington welder as it is AC the later Harringtons were DC.

Cheers - Fabricator friend says I will be best off with inverter mig on a long lead, and when I am back in workshop more likely to be used as well, so will persue that idea. Think Smooth Operator is from Luton? Bit of a Trek from the Cornish Borders :)

I'd agree.
easiest option with a sufficiently heavy enough lead to avoid voltage drop ...... but a portable set is always handy for getting to where your power supply isn't.
