Absolutely bang on.
Slippery slope...energy help...what next free Netflix...FFS.
Local timber framing outfit took a new lad on.
At mid morning break he was getting his coat on...where you going. Sod this work lark I'm better off on benefits with my mum.
I know lads with one leg missing that put in a hard day's graft better than this whole disability waving a walking stick society.
Able bodied ...you work like the rest of society.
Folk of the earlier hard times must be laughing their socks off.
When you get drink paid for you because your an alcoholic what f****ng hope do we have!

Problem is if a bunch of digger men can see the problem and come up with a solution why can't government?? Simple fact is cause we are a minority, and they would lose vast amounts of votes if they made the lazy bastards work!

My Wife Works in education, she is basically over the colleges in N.I, and alot of this involves programs to get people into work, I have heard some success stories to be fair. A few years ago they had a big program proposal to get people off benefits. She had told me bits about it and it all sounded good to me!
The big meeting came around and it got thrown out because one of the main political parties here voted against it! I asked why, and she said because alot of there voters are on benefits and they don't want to lose support:mad:

seriously like how do you work with that!

Look at the government total borrowing and it all comes down to nanny state helping out!! Or alternative…..vote buying!!

do it as well as you can,but learn to do it better
sadly 'the entitled' are what keeps all these bas*ards in their cushy numbers ... no way are they going to alienate them          .....
Abergavenny has two sorts of ppl ... workers and stick carriers .. dare say it's pretty representative of the UK in general ....

have advocated for years ... if you've got yer hand out, you need to report somewhere daily, morning and night to clock on/off, as if in work .. or lose the handouts .... soon get pee-ed off and get a paying job if they had to get their arses out of bed of a morning and be 'inconvenienced' by having their days 'regimented' as those who work do. Would also **** all the hobblers

I've got to be honest, for me we shouldn't be helping full stop with energy..... Nor travel, not anything really bar basic food, healthcare and education to literate standards.

Beyond that your on your own..... Want shelter, transport and heat.... Go graft for it. Oh and by food and water, I mean free showers, water fountains and toilets... An walk in kitchens where you give your ID and get a free basic meal...... Like porridge, toast, perhaps some form of basic meat or stew in the evening.

We shouldn't be funding able bodied people's existence......

And if I'm going to be really extreme, form a new branch of the services for disaster relief and global aid projects with similar theory's to the merchant navy..... No job no hope? Go work for a cause that can teach you something whilst you positively impact the world.

My friend, there is a part of me that feels this.
But I think all the help for the poorest this winter.
My 2p...
Things have been broken for too long for many people to help themselves.
Not so long ago we did a landscaping job for a school by Telford in holiday time. The street the school was on full of kids up early playing football in their pyjamas with bare feet on the tarmac road as the school was shut.
This went on everyday until about midday when adults would surface and shout at the kids.
I’ll never forget this. One young kid would leave the street football when we arrived to watch us working behind the fencing. He would ask questions, some silly others sharp, desperate to have a go. The spark in his eyes was bigger than mine has ever been. I hope he makes it out of there with that spark. He couldn’t help where he was born, parents third generation jobless? What hope does he have. Poverty breeds poverty and unless the cycle is broken by funding and education and most importantly BELIEF that they can in any way better their parents.
The environment you grow up in is incredibly impactful on the human you become. If it’s dark, cold and you’re hungry you get good at existing not excelling.
With the divide of rich poor getting wider, it will be these and people with low paid jobs that will now never get ahead of this without a slightly even playing field not £500 a month energy bills.

Could always break it with contraception. Being in a pretty dire position is noones fault but A) don't make it worse and B) don't inflict it upon little people who have no say in the matter.

I wonder how many accidents there would be if they weren't government funded

Absolutely!😄 maybe the help should be targeted there.... although they’d probably sell them for booze and then?🤣

Only people today who can afford children are mums on benefits most young couples who work can't afford children unless on very good money after paying rent or mortgage and must have both at work to survive
All I'll say is we have 3 kids and it's a battle and I'd class myself as fortunate...
But I'd also say without been racist but simply stating a fact in the maternity ward as a white British couple you feel very much the odd one out...

The trouble simply put is there is compassionate, and then there is ****ing stupid.

Children are where the welfare system has it's biggest issue. Namely the system seems to reward the idle with greater protections, money and housing the more sprogs you have. And TBH you would not want children suffering intense poverty because there parents are lazy idle bastards.
The trick really is year round education/activities for those that are in poverty...... if your on the breadline your kids are automatically eligible for free "childcare".... perhaps even give a Giro extra to fund the parents driving there car to drop them off......

Break the cycle and it's problem solved.... and it gives the chance for the kids to have a couple funded good meals a day.

R.e - Contraception..... It's something that should be used in extreme cases, particularly with drug users that are repeatedly bringing very ill, drug dependent children into the world who have no f****ng chance whatsoever and immediately are taken into care. This subject is close to home and you can argue whatever the f**k about what's "fair" or "ethical" the reality is these supposedly wanted children aren't wanted as much as the drugs.... and those that are stupidly left with the parents inevitably fall into the same cycles..... Most are drug dependent when they leave the womb...... I'm no fan of the greater good intervening. But that is one of those things that is about stopping suffering.

I know accidents will always happen and that we need to look after the children but rather than being rhetorical I genuinely wonder how many people are purposefully careless because they know the government will pick up the pieces.

I certainly work with some people with no sense of responsibility kids with multiple women won't wrap up and the likes and it's all just a laugh to them. And we have made this socially acceptable.

The stories I have but can't share would appal you.... But long story short without background... Multiple drug dependent children, gradually suffering from more and more birth defects and all taken away from someone at birth because there was a track record of neglect leading to abuse from 3rd parties.

I'm not a fan of government intervention, but you have to ask the question what kind of life are we damning these poor kids too by allowing it to continue after the first incident. If it was livestock and you allowed it to breed you would be clobbered by the RSPCA for animal cruelty.

Fyi all the kids involved are in loving caring homes these days. Fairplay to the people who have shown them love and compassion.... Braver people than me.

I completely under estimated how much kids cost to feed and dress! I know it’s a hard comparison because everything has gone up considerably the last few years, but I genuinely think my 2 year old spends more on food and clothes than I do!
But I’m not fussed, I’ll starve and wear rags before she ever goes without!

I don't really know any with that back ground. Its more the people with 4 by 4 who seem to have not a care as the government just bale's them out repeatedly. And they know they will keep on doing so. I know it's a hard one to juggle but being so careless should not be rewarded so well.

In the 1950s/ 1960s if you could not afford to keep children and made homeless they were taken off you and taken into care some were sent to Australia Canada etc and parents weren't told what happened to them this was all stopped after a play on TV called Kathy come home was shown it caused an outcry and that stopped. I remember that play to this day and it was very sad what could happen .But now it seems to have gone to far the other way and unless you are on benefits you can not get social housing .
