I'm guessing the gantry is to catch anything falling from the gondola above.
Presumably it's designed for impact and is stronger than it looks.
Maybe designed to catch skis/bodies falling from above, I doubt it was built to catch a 100 tonne crane at speed from the side though!

I think it's actually a bucket cable way like the one at claughton brickworks up here.

Must have been a helluva an impact!!
Fair play to folk that built it.

Do we think boom was up? Ram is extended but weather it was ripped up is difficult to tell...

Imagine driving that back into the yard nonchalantly without the boom and cab on 😎😳

How much of it is the machine and how much is poor working practices.
All the videos I've seen of the moment it all goes wrong have clearly been operator error.
Overloading mostly but also seems to be a lot of twin lifts, or uprighting or laying down where coordination is non existent.

you probably have it pretty bang on there TBH ... that's been side loaded and as you say looks to have been tandem lifting/tailing a load

common practise to move 'em short distances rigged .. days of work to de-rig/rig ... obviously run into a soft spot ...... would want to be bloody sure of your ground prep. and that it is FLAT / LEVEL ... any camber or soft spot and it's game over - as above

The outriggers were full width on the LHS, but not visible on the RHS. Might have saved it (might not)

other way round - fully retracted on the left, but no way would they have saved it ... ground was too soft, end of

I meant from the drivers pov
that was the top cab that died ... we're viewing that from the arse end of the carrier ;) ... either way it was well ****ed and a VERY expensive cock up ....... to say now't of the costs of a recovery exercise :oops::oops:
