Russ has grown up in the crane game and at one time ran them up to 200 tonners .. sold his order book/customer contact list to Gordon Sparrow after their two year moratorium expired, after they'd sold out two years previously. He too had a two year 'hiatus' imposed and he sold all but a few of his machines, which he had out the day the two years was up :) ... he thought he could make a spider pay and tried for nigh on a year, but the demand just wasn't there :( ... approaching 60 now and he's down to just the 30t Liebherr, which he virtually lives in - never been so busy and has a great rep. in the area. ... have known him a long time and very often 'swapped' jobs, if we got hires on each other's 'patches';)(y)
Would that of been the same, that became Grayston White and Sparrow?
The took over a firm with a local branch, Scott Greenham.

Graystons, J D Whites and Sparrows amalgamated/took each other over to form that group and swallowed a few smaller outfits along the way - pretty sure Greenhams were amongst them, later rebranded as GWS with new blue livery - didn't last long in that incarnation and got swallowed up again, by from memory Ainscough. Gordon Sparrow jnr. has operated several fleets along the way .. he too got swallowed with a two or three year moratorium on going again .. started again and bought Russ in one of the re-starts ... still operating AFAIK
can't recall what happened to Hewdens after they became Hewden Stuart, but operated successfully for several years before getting swallowed by a bigger group, after ending up in the tish financially -- seem to recall Acrow owning them at one time before offloading them, when it hit the fan in '08 .... crane game has always been pretty nepotistic

By what I was told a few years ago hewden on the tool hire at least were shafted by a 'fast' company. I was told an ex fast director went to work for them invested 1.5 mill in lighting (a lot at the time) nobody could understand why at the time, then same director went back to the fast company
