Major update for Van Oord's heavy-lift installation vessel, Svanen!

In an impressive display on the quayside of Mammoet today, the PTC210-DS executed a major upgrade for the Svanen.

A massive A-Frame was lifted onto the existing structure, propelling the vessel to new heights – literally! This enhancement equips the Svanen to seamlessly install new generation monopile foundations at sea. The structure is now towering at an impressive height of 125 meters.

For this operation, the PTC 210-DS was configured with a 105-meter main boom and a 66-meter luffing jib, handling a staggering combined weight exceeding 1000 tonnes!

We've crossed the Astoria-Megler bridge several times in the last week, and I marvel at the engineering and builders that allowed this to be! This photo from 1965 shows the last section being placed. It was assembled in Portland, barged down and then set during high tide. Rivets and metal had only 1/4" error base, and the men on the barge and tugs and on the bridge had to coordinate all sorts of possibilities.
