The concept is pretty standard with walkers as they can get to places where you can't get a dumper to. This bit of stream clearence we floated a skip back and forth (not allowed access to bank or to dump spoil on it). You can see the pulley under the Euromach. Winch was at the other end. Bigger machines are plumbed in for hydraulic winches underneath as standard.
Abroad they often get round the problem with helicopters.
