Hi. By way of update - and a few dead batteries later - I think I have solved the problem. By accident rather than by design!
I couldn't find the issue of the draining battery, but I continued to use the dumper. A few weeks ago, I noticed it getting harder and harder to start, even when on a full battery or jump. After a while, it wouldn't start at all and I noticed smoke coming from the starter motor. Replaced the starter motor, and I've never had an issue with it since. Not sure how that sorted the issue, but something has. Maybe there was a drain on the motor due to a faulty solenoid, or a burning out motor causing a short somewhere...?
£100 for a new starter motor now seems like money well spent.
