Fair enough I've not tried a 38 the local plant hire spot to me has 6 27's and there all the same and there definitely not turned down
I see. So how many hours has yours done. And is there much wear in the VDS bushes etc. I can definitely see some benefits to it. Last year I was doing some trenching on a steep cross slope and the tensing up bracing against the slope was actually pretty tiring. Also thing it would be easier on the slew to be rotating a full load around on the level Vs swinging it uphill etc. What puts me off is the additional stepping out height and the potential for wear etc .I've a 2.7ton one with a tail
They only tilt one way. Still really handy. You hold on a button on your left hand and work the right lever left and right.
It's not an inconvenience if you don't use use it. Been in some handy situations digging straight with one track on the pavement and one track o the road and digging away perfectly level
Haha thing your probably right there- sadly I'm not rich enoughI remember talking to a rep about one. Seem to think it was like operating the blade. So would sit at what angle you wanted. I decided a proper tilty would be better!!
My ET24 is the same as this. You hold on a button on your left hand and work the right lever left and right
Are they not offering the micro without VDS?Just picking up on this exsisting thread. Does anyone know how do you operate the VDS system, ie can you tilt it to whatever angle you like or does it self level? I'd love to use one really to see what I think of it. My other worry is that if the mechanism that operates the tilt and the pivot bushes start to wear it will all start to feel like a machine with a worn slew.
Apparently Wacker are not offering the sub 2.5t machine without VDS in the UK anymore. It's standard although they will build one in the factory if you really don't want it
I've been offered the VDS machine for cheaper than the cost to build without though...
Not sure about the micro. It's only what dealer has said regarding 2.5t and below but ET24 which is the one I'm interested in would be a special build now to have one without VDS, although there is 1 more ET20 in UK stock without as well... He has one an ET20 VDS in his yard at the mo, think I will go and have a look and see if it sways a decision. Are they not offering the micro without VDS?
I wouldn’t worry too much about the pins in the VDS, they’re substantial and if you aren’t allergic to the grease gun, not more of a weakness than anything else on the machine.
I don't think there is a down side to having VDS.... its a good strong system and would give a bit of extra ground clearance when neededNot sure about the micro. Did u sell your 6t Hitachi ?I don't think there is a down side to having VDS.... its a good strong system and would give a bit of extra ground clearance when needed
No still have it, its been out on hire since Christmas, though due back this weekend. Still debating selling it or not, we will be needing to do groundwork, sewers etc at the new house in the next few months so will probably keep it til after that.Did u sell your 6t Hitachi ?
From what I've heard the ET90 (?) Is a decent bit of kit. Certainly looks a lovely machine.I’ve got a guy with a 9 tonne tiltied-up WN on site next week, I’m looking forward to having a good look at it tbh!
X2. Built to last, and lovely machines to operate. From what I've heard the ET90 (?) Is a decent bit of kit. Certainly looks a lovely machine.
It's where I'd be going looking in that sizeX2. Built to last, and lovely machines to operate.

Tbh I didn’t really get much of a poke around it as it was a mental busy day. Looked good though! What did you think ?
I have had this thought in the past too but I had another good look at a VDS ET20 yesterday. Have to say the the VDS build quality is very convincing- can't see it being an issue with wear TBH. I wouldnt say it's a substitute for a power tilt, yes you could use it to give your self an angled bucket for the odd occasion but for me the real benefit I see is an ergonomic one- I have serious issues at times from sitting on a side slope, basically it mucks around with spinal alignment and triggers nerves in the back(sciatica). Using just the blade to level yourself or dig yourself level just isn't possible all the time, I can see plenty of scope on sloping hill paths or sitting walling on hillsides where the VDS can sit me level, nothing to stop it being used in conjunction with a tilt hitch/bucket so you can get the alter bucket work without having to alter machine position. The only downside is the ram for the VDS hangs slightly lower than the track frame which could get caught up on things but think if the awareness of it is there it's not really a problem. A job like this ditch I did last year was feckin awful for sitting on the piss. The VDS would have been ace.Not worth the premium price I’d say. VDS is a crappy gimmick, much better off with a powertilt.
