Any advice on what this bit is?
Volvo EC15B 2005 with a Mitsubushi engine.
Used it today here in a sweltering France with no problems. Turned it off for the day and had a butchers at the engine and it smothered in oil I believe. Out the corner of my eye I see a drop of oil drip from the fitting. Cant be 100% its the problem but its above the engine. When I wiped the fitting there was a piece of black plastic that came off and looked well perished. Manuals are here somewhere but have misplaced in the move so rather than hunt through the barn I thought Id ask here first.

It looks wet above that thing whatever it is. Can I just see the cap for the hydraulic filler above and to the side of the air filter box? Could be too much fluid in the tank and on a hot day its decided to bypass the cap which has a breather inside it, then dripping down onto everything else?

Is it not a 12v socket? It looks like one? Although I can’t imagine why it would be in that position?

Just got in from having another look after your comment and I think you may be right. It topped 35degs today and its been working in direct sun all day. I have a face like a jaffa where its been pouring through the window.

deffo panel mounted Hella socket ... without the flip top .... as said either for a beacon or perhaps a wander lead lamp / hand held spot

First one I have seen that leaks oil though, I thought they only leak oil when fitted to LandRovers.
