How do they build those tracks? I can see plates or matts of some sort but if they were just laid on the ground would they not just sink and stay sunk?

I guessing that there must be some geotex under there somewhere.

No real reason for asking other that idle curiosity.

driven on similar, but not so wet .... track across a peat bog above Hirwaun, in a 45t Grove to recover a grader who'd gone off the side of the track ..... had a two foot 'bow wave' in front and a similar thing behind me ..... unreal sensation - like driving on a floating carpet
How long ago was that? I think I remember something like that happening when I was there🤔 on the forest road down to the Tarmac quarry in the middle of nowhere?

A bloody long time ago Aiden .... don't know where the road went to, but sure was the middle of no where, above the gasometers IIRC ... roadway was 3ft deep stone, with matting under, in and through it .. I was 42 tonnes and not keen  .... having gotten to this grader, I had no where to set up .... guy said "oh, didn't realise you'd need your legs" ..... track was maybe 12 ft wide with passing places ....I was 20ft wide to jack centres, set up !! ..... they brought in hundreds of tonnes of stone, either side and a machine to make me a stand .... and I came back two days later with 20 extra sleepers to add to the 10 half sleepers that lived on the Grove .... had to reverse two plus miles back out onto the HOV road in this 'rolling trough' in the track, a good two feet deep ..... ****ing weird sensation watching the ground roll out in front/behind you, as you drove in this mobile 'hole'

Luckiest muthafuka going! Didn’t even break the sun visor! :ROFLMAO:

f***ed the tailgate though, but he’d almost done that before it went over! Must have been mental to attempt it with a cantilever tailgate.
