Used mini purchase, what to look for.

Going to look at this little tb216 for a few jobs I have coming up asking price is around 8-9k, It will be the first machine I have bought so I was wandering what I should be looking for when I go see it and what kind of work a 2600hour mini would be needing. I'm not scared of it needing some work as I want to get some hands on experience maintaining a machine for when I hopefully get something newer and better in the future, So far I have only operated other peoples machines so never had to do any maintenance myself.

Check the under carriage parts. The bottom rollers for play. They should roll smoothly and tightly, that machine has a slack track it may be that they just haven't bothered to tension properly but there is a grease filled piston that tensions them and seals might have gone
- the top wear guides will almost certainly have worn at those hrs but very cheap and easy to replace
-Play in pins and bushes along the arm/kingpost, Inc dipper end/bucket pins. Manual quick hitch likely to have wear in it.
- slew around any roughness walk away. The bearing shouldn't be moving up and down but a small amount of sided to side play is normal.
-obvious things like leaks make sure it's dry everywhere. Behind track motors- pump- engine etc
- make sure it tracks in a straight line and can push.
-jack your self up on the blade- it should be able to lift the whole machine up so the whole undercarriage is off the floor- leave it for a while to make sure it holds itself there.
- just general cosmetic signs of previous damage- any thing that looks like it's been on its side or blade worn unevenly on one side etc.

Generally theyre robust little machines though so hopefully if it's been serviced and shown a grease gun regularly it should be good.

I was planning to try and get it for around 17-18k AUD in the Kings pounds that's around 8-9k, It's a 2017 with 2600 hours and he says no oil leaks.

Hard to say if it's good value in the Aus market - values vary across the eu let alone the other side of the world - but all the points to look out for are still valid obviously and after that you'd have to do a bit of research re price,whether it's local,dealer with a bit of comeback etc all to factor in.

Bucket / qh pins expect play not to bad to make good.
Should track in a straight line

Thanks for the list mate, with the slew I'm guessing apart from using the machine and feeling it you mean grab it aswell and see if there is much movement?

Take a mate with you easier if one sits in the cab and gently bushes down on the floor until it starts to lift the tracks- get someone to look at the slew and see if there's movement there up and down. Also jack the machine up on an angle with the blade it should feel smooth as you spin 360. At those hrs it's unlikely there will be a problem- unless animals have been driving the machine and failed to grease the slew properly

My K008‘s slew bearing was totally shot at 2600 hrs. But if the price is right this shouldn’t be a stopper.

There is also these two that I'm tempted to check out, The JCB has 2k hours and comes with a trailer @£9,700 and this tb219 with 3k hours with a new set of tracks @£11,500.

yeah I was thinking that as well but this is just the starting price listed on marketplace so I'm guessing there is a good bit of movement in the price, I'm not sure what its like in the UK but a lot of things going for this price go a lot cheaper if you throw in some cash.

Id say that TB219 might be £8500-9k sort of price. It's done some hours and whilst not a complete wreck it has by the looks been used by self hire/utility types with perhaps not the most sympathetic operator!
