Doesn't say much for Greenmech customer service or quality standards. I've never seen the innards sucked out of a filter. I would guess it was a manufacturing quality control issue. Wonder if it was made in China?
Sending the guy a new filter and asking for the old one back to send to the manufacturer and an apology would seem to be the appropriate response.

im no mechanic but if there is enough draw to destroy the filter then its either a faulty filter or insufficient for what the engine is pulling.

PeteB on there has always struck me as arrogant anyway, always claiming GreenMech are the best and everyone else copies them. From his postings, if GreenMech made diggers they'd be bottom of my shortlist every time.

I was quite surprised by their response tbh - I run a few Greenmechs and have always had fantastic service from them.
I’m certain that the filtration will be specified by the engine manufacturer and supplied with the engine package.
Greenmech put me directly in touch with a firm called Engines Plus when we had to replace an Isuzu unit in an old machine - (I’m not sure if they are Greenmech’s only engine supplier) - they send the engines out in crates built up to go into whatever machine is relevant. I’d imagine the response to the filter issue is simply being relayed by Greenmech from the engine manufacturer/supplier (not that that makes it right though)!
PeteB is a decent fella in real life - I know he is very passionate about the firm he works for and the products they manufacture (as are all the staff I’ve dealt with at GM to be honest). I’d imagine it is incredibly frustrating to see products you’ve designed and brought to market being ripped off and knocked out cheap by foreign manufacturers so can totally see where he’s coming from when he bangs the Greenmech drum as loud as he does!

When I saw "Unbelievable" as a thread title I thought that'll be inner safety element failure being perfectly acceptable ……...…… mind boggling is more like it o_O
Isn't it generally expected that salespeople bullshit as a standard default ?

Actually in some respects their marketing does reflect in the product ;)

I suppose neither green mech manufacture the filters nor the engine So they are talking twaddle.

I dont think it would of done a great deal of damage, its basically shite filters I would assume but the response of the business is shocking.

Likely to of done Nil damage, and being the inner element is unlikely to of allowed any dust into the engine. BUT the response is s**t.

"Yes, the element has failed. We are reporting it to our supplier in case it's a batch issue, however it will not of caused damage to the engine provided the outer element is intact and functional as the inner is a failsafe." would of been a better response...... I'd actually be inviting the salesman round who has suggested it's a non issue, giving him a mask with a hole in and throwing MDF dust over him to prove a point. :ROFLMAO:

Unlikely to have done damage? Possibly. Capable of having done damage? Also possibly. Debris from a filter can hold a valve open enough for the seat to get burnt, only needs to hang there for a few strokes. With modern tolerances, a big enough bit can hold the valve open far enough for the piston crown to kiss the valve head, which can weaken the valve enough for a fail either immediately or further down the line. Can also damage a turbocharger vane, on the induction side that can be expensive If part of the vane decides to have a trip through the combustion chamber.

Ridiculous response from someone with a claimed 38 years experience, obviously Not many of those years were inside engines.

Embarrassing response for a company. Proper reply would have cost them a service kit, postage and an apology. Now everyone that reads both these forums will think twice about giving them business in future. How stupid are these companies today?

So to be fair probably won't cause any damage. But if they supplied the filter and they then say it's quite common to do that (but i have those type of filters of other machines and have never seen it) why don't they start supplying some decent filters ffs. I bet they charge enough for them

Well I won’t join Arbtalk just to comment, but re-reading Pete’s reply I’m more aghast than when I read it yesterday while half-bladdered. That filter element is utter garbage and definitely not a Donaldson. I’ve seen a Donaldson filter so blocked that the induction hose collapsed under suction and shut the engine down, but the element didn’t collapse or break up. I think with that post, Greentech have shot themselves in one foot, then put the second barrel through the other foot while they’re still hopping.

I wonder if someone sprayed ether or some other fluid in there trying to start it. Did they change the fuel filter at 50hr and then have a hard time getting fuel bled, so they hit it with some starter fluid....pulled the outer but didn't worry about the inner.
That's my wild speculation for the day. "Pats self on back and goes back to sleep" lol
