Yep it slides off really fast, to the point the rep actually said to me ignore the 5 yr warrenty as the 4/5th year is basically the fresh air it sits in!

It be an interesting cost analysation actually. Starting from scratch to do class 2, purchase of a half decent truck, O license and servicing etc. I probably move a machine on average 6-10 times a month, trouble is we'd still have to have the pickup anyway for general use so it's not like your saving the cost of that...

That's terrible, just a sales tactic then. Tbh I don't really think too much about warranty when buying, kind of figure id be on my own with it all if s**t hits the fan so would rather put effort into just getting something that I would consider to be as reliable as poss...

Yup! And then you have certain makes like NH where the warranty becomes excess based, so often it’s cheaper to fix yourself than claim through the warrant

If you're out every day then wagon starts to stack up, but if you're employing people then it's not just one licence to sort it's multiple. Did look at it a few times. Our ground works very sporadic. Might be out 3 times in a week, last year machine was in container for 4 months I think without every coming out.How do you get your digger around if its in the shed ?

I use the truck for general use and the car for pricing,might get a cheap little van at some stage but drop skip off the truck if im running about empty.
Before I paid €150 a move for the 8t and had about 20 moves a year so 3000€ - and sometimes lost a day to availability or 1/2 a day buggering about with transport guy, so to save getting moved I used to use 3t a lot which was slow compared to 8t - then all aggregates came in from quarry so had to wait or prebook and hope we were ready.
Now 6t does 95% of work - move exactly when we want, often go round by quarry for aggregates as we go to work or muck away at end of day -fingers crossed but so far I haven't found the truck as expensive to maintain as a landrover and trailer - truck is designed to do the job.

Don't forget if you've only class 2 you can only buy a truck that'll carry a digger or adapted to carry a digger. If you wanting to tow it then it's class 1 needed.
I'm going to do have to bite the bullet at some point and do class 1, as the handiest thing for me would be towing the digger behind the grab

Fair play it sounds as though your set up works perfectly for you.Personally we need a van load of tools on many jobs with only 2 or 3 moves a month and materials often supplied by customer direct these days ,I think a truck would be a luxury albeit one I would like to have.

True but there is more room in the back of the truck than there is in a trailer and pickup.
Strangely I have 3.5t right behind truck on class 2
some quirk of switch over.

But no you can only only tow 750kg on class 2 but now car drivers get 3.5t towing without any extra tests.

You can only tow 750kg behind truck here on class 2 - but it was on my uk license and got put across to french at 3.5t.

On a side note here, if you do your class 2 does that mean you lose your trailer licence all together?

The problem I have with spending £34k on one 3 tonner is that I currently have 2 tidy 3 tonners that cost me under £30k for the both. I'll be able to put several years use on them and still get probably £20-£25k if I sold them both. So very cheap diggering and convenience of being able to leave one machine on a job and have the other elsewhere...
