See we provide nice Roots flame retardant overalls to everyone with us, but some guys go off their own bat an buy these dungarees to wear in the workshop. I don't think it gives your upper body and arms enough protection when using a welder. To many cases of skin cancer in the trade to ignore it.

still got plenty o' Proban sets sat Mike, but very often stick a jacket on the upper half to protect the arms ... Boiler suits are such a faff, unless putting on for the day, which I don't tend to do so much these days, but do more so in the colder months, as the need to 'cool down' ain't so great/frequent.

eck i better not turn up on the sites you guys are on as unless i put on my bib and brace i wear dark blue joggers (company colours) all the time manly due to the fact that being the height and build i am finding comfy work trousers is a total pain. I have tried many different brands and styles and none seem to fit what i do for a living and we cant get the hi-viz ones like i used to have as the company stopped making them

I emailed ruffntuff, carhartt are currently updating there product line hence the lack of stock
They have also discontinued the trousers I like in my leg length so might have to try and order some Duluth ones

@tinydigger carhartt should make something being American they do every size
It's the reason I started wearing them as they do 36 inseam which is quite rare
They even do 38inch inseam
Another firm is Engelbert Strauss not as hard wearing but very comfy and are the only only company that make hi Vis trousers that reach my ankles

Full trackies with added holes. He seemed a nice lad and potentially could probably work but I dont know you do have to make an impression. Not expecting suits

First impressions do count, no doubt about it. But quite honestly, if he’s had the gumption to actually come and see you after he heard you were looking for someone, then I’d say he’s worth a shot! Take him on on a trial period, if it doesn’t work out, for either of you, then you can let him go or he can leave with no hard feelings.

Yup. Provide decent work clothers and make clear that you expect them to be worn/looked after.

I provide a washing machine/dryer at my yard too. Makes a difference if the lads can go home clean.

I'd agree with James here.

As far as the clothes are concerned, consider giving them work clothes. Our dress code is (clean and smart) jeans and the rest we provide. Company polos in the spring and summer, black work shirts in autumn and winter, together with the appropriate jackets, hi vis, safety footwear etc. As well as encouraging good dress sense, it makes the right impression with customers and doesn't harm team building. All IMHO

always supplied company logo-ed Proban boiler suits, laundered weekly, plus the required safety boots. They/we looked a team and always presented a professional image, to folk coming through the door or when out and about ...... much better than some of the rag tag outfits you'd see on some sites

It's the eb136 essential the same design as the bo1 but slightly different material and available in lots of colours they've only discontinued my leg length not the actual trousers themselves

Yes I have had EB136 instead of B01 when they are on offer. I was lead to believe it was a lighter weight fabric when I first bought some, as I wanted something just a bit lighter for summer when shorts weren’t suitable. But tbh I could hardly tell the difference, if there even was?
Then after speaking to another supplier, iirc they told me the EB136 was basically a B01 but it was pre washed. I suppose it makes them a bit softer? B01’s are much better after a wash or two, so maybe that’s all the EB’s are?. I tend to wash them before I even wear them anyway.

used to do the same with the boiler suits, (rental from Spring Grove), when new replacements got issued ... ... they were too stiff to wear, so got chucked on the floor and trampled on to make sure they were laundered ..... after three wash cycles they no longer fitted the allocated wearers ... so they started the new issue again, using the now shrunken suits as size-ers - idiots ... and could never listen to what they were told, from our previous experiences.
One of my guys was 6' 9" and circa 19-20 stone ... a BIG lad .. in fact had a few big fellas and was a right performance getting them kitted out !!

I've had a few bits from Engelbert Strauss but the bib n brace and the shorts have a odd fit. Not had my bib n brace a year yet and burned a hole with angle grinder sparks. I like my snickers b n b but only just got that so can't comment on durability.

I asked suppliers this question to and was told they was the fabric before cutting it to get a more consistent fit as the material relaxes before being cut

Either way I'm quite disappointed as I really like the dark brown as it hides dirt so well

I generally have the Carharrt Brown, once it’s lost it newness it’s much more subtle. I like the Gravel too, have a pair I wear for ‘best’
I’ve got a pair of black R01, but not worn them yet, they were too cheap not to buy them at the time!

I had the carhartt brown ones but thought the faded to light felt like a painter
Similar to the moss ones I tried
I have a black pair they are holding up well
I just like the dark brown they look smart even when completely filthy
