Anyone good with them?
The other week it flooded which was the first time it had done it since having it (3+ years) managed to get it started then after cutting some pockets out on some brickwork, using water. It's thrown a hissy fit, not sure if water has got into the exhaust or just coincidence since doing the cuts that it's gone funny.
The saw will only start on full choke where it will go full flat out revs wise with a lot of white smoke, switching to half choke or off results in bogging down and cutting out. Compression is still good and same result if air filters removed

Pilot jet. Just change the carb for a Chinese one off eBay.

didn't get a chance to look at it before tonight as need a saw tomorrow 🤣
I stripped the carb down tonight and gave it a good clean and reassemble, it now runs without the choke but doesn't want to idle and is very smokey. Could be too strong a 2 stroke mix as petrol is quite dark, I might empty the tank and do a new mix and might treat it to some proper Stihl oil. I still need to replace the air filters I have one in a lock up just need time to go get it

No. Pilot jet. Very hard to clean. Just change the carb it’s much easier.

Ok, I will sort a carb out, hopefully this will just manage the next day or so only need to do a handful of cuts on some edgings. I meant to try and look at it over the last week or so but just got pushed back as busy with other stuff

If all a genuine carb needs is cleaned I'd be doing that rather than throwing a chinese carb on. Cheap they may be but it's for a reason.
The pilot jet is almost impossible to clean, even in an ultrasonic. I've had a Chinese carb on mine for five years. Plenty of Zama carbs are made in China nowadays (what isn't?)

Ultrasonics are brilliant for cleaning carbs except for jets. Boiling water and airline best for jets imo. The only thing with cleaning small carbs is often if you have to strip them right down and diaphragms end up needing replaced chinky carbs are cheaper.

Do you reckon the boiling water would dissolve that green resin you get from old petrol? That's usually what kills them, and solvents don't touch it.

Since switching to E0 petrol I don't have issues any more thankfully.

I think it's more that the heat swells the brass so the crud becomes loose and the airline can blow it out rather than dissolves it.

Put a cheapo Zama carb on my little husky chainsaw I was doubtful it would be any good but it seems spot on, starts and runs great again I am going to try running it completely out of fuel each day I use it as I think the fuel is somehow congealing or something. I was having problems with it flooding real bad, old carb did not seem to have anything obvious wrong needle valve and diaphragms were ok carb was £11.00 less than genuine rebuild kit.

E10 petrol is awful for small engines. The premium stuff is e5 which is better. If you have an Esso near you (except in Scotland and Cornwall I think, check their website), their premium blend says E5 as it has to by law but is actually ethanol free.

Have you put any in an old 2 stroke that's had normal petrol through it for years?
All new stuff I`ve swopped it to aspen straight away now, but I`ve been told if I put it in a saw that's been on petrol for years, its likely to leak fuel, and need new fuel lines, and diaphragm  not a big job I just CBA, while they are still running fine.

I once had a old 230 that did leak but I think it was more the lines were shot anyway. New lines and sorted.
My 461 was run on normal till I swapped and it's been fine for last 3 years or so.
I'd never go back . Buy the 20ls straight into combi can.
