When it comes to tiltrotators I'm sure all of us users have learned little tricks, by ourselves, from others through conversation, or from reading of others woe's and experiences.
I'm not looking to start a mines better than yours thread, a yellows better than X discussion or they don't do this but mine does.
This is about things, tips, we've learned that may benefit others.
My only experience is with Engcon, both without and now with EC-Oil and only with EC15 now EC219 sizes so smaller units may have different idiosyncrasy's
First thing I learned was you can park it up at night, everything working perfectly. Start up in the morning, slew around and find your lower hitch doesn't work
now that is a heart stopping moment I can assure you! EVERYTHING works bar the bottom hitch! You cannot get the bucket off!
I hasten to add this can apply to any function, from a gripper that opens but wont close to a tilt right but wont tilt back left and vis versa.
Just think about that for a moment, you've fully tilted in one direction but it won't come back!
Makes for a sharp learning curve when you realize its the top hitch you need to release and you have not got a flat surface to set down on
I buried the bucket in 20t of pea gravel the first time
So why?
Simply the hydraulics relax over night and depending on how you've parked the bucket, on its arse or on its cutting edge the electrical contact can separate enough that when started and locked up tight again you've lost "contact" on a terminal. Simply releasing the top hitch, ( I now know I can leave the unit "hanging" on the front pin) and cleaning the electrical contacts between the hitch and tiltrotator cures the issue.
Some say, smear the contacts with a thin layer of grease, others are adamant they need to be scrupulously clean, both work and it'll depend if your a dirty bastard like me or OCD on which works best for you.
First time it happened and it doesn't happen often, I literally froze and the arse dropped out of my world
it took me a good few seconds to compose myself and start to think logically WHY? Then I remembered what JC had told me about the contacts.
I've put unit back on after using the breaker and reconnected it 3 times, each time cleaning the contacts before I've got all functions working again.
Now whenever I reconnect I test each service a fraction each way so as not to end up looking a complete prat with a fully tilted unit and nowhere to put it down!
