Training Day, what's yours?

Been another training day here, had to do the HIAB refresher. 3 years since we got the Lorry Crane. Seems like every other week here there's some kind of training course or awareness course to do. I think it's abrasive wheels and asbestos awareness in a couple weeks, half day on each. It's never ending
At least it's just a day here and half day there, I'm looking at puwer course that lasts a week 🫣

A very good friend of mine delivers the smsts and sssmts course for 3b training (and others).As i let mine lapse for too long i missed the deadline to do the 2 day refresher i had to do the whole thing as a noob.
I did it at the end of last year via zoom and it wasn't too bad.Nowhere near as bad as dragging yourself to a soulless shed miles away for 5 days.
I rolled out of bed and logged in at 9 which was a slight bonus.
It was around £500 at the time,so add in the 5 days of no pay its quite an outlay..
Also at the same time i re done my NPORS dig/dump and telehandler. An expensive year last year...
Now ive changed jobs i need IOSH and NEBOSH. FML

Yea the NEBOSH one is a proper test compared to all the others.
Im pushing my new company to make some contribution to it.
Some other ones are as you say, just looking attentive.Much like junior school sports days where everyone gets a prize

Yeah my father in law failed it. What makes it worse is it's his job and he has done the course multiple times over the years. But they let you re take individual modules.

I'm lucky as everything i have i collected through different employers over the years.
Some things I've never used they just put everyone through.

No but if you happen to have a rubber glove full off cotton wool dripping copious amounts of red food dye then I know exactly what to do

My first refresher after the old CITB got to the end I was wanting to get agricultural tractor added and the trainer said "not relevant , no class available" , within six months we were being told we couldn't use tractors for pipe stringing as we hadn't done the new course.

Next time round I was wanting guidance on semi automatic quick hitches and the trainer said that talking about it was a waste of course time, and this was at the point that a coroner had criticised the industry for a lack of training !

Since then I only do courses that interest me and only with trainers that have been recommended. I hope that the health and safety part of construction/forestry/agricultural is close enough to satisfy HSE in the unlikely event of me doing something totally stupid

What do you do?

Abrasive wheels and Asbestos awareness a couple weeks ago for 7 of us. Counterbalance Forklift for 2 last week. I’ve got Hiab and Hook crane coming up. 3 of us doing ASHP BPEC next month. All of us doing a BPEC online course , specialist training non low temp heating in May for 2 days.. monthly toolbox talks and refreshers risk assessments. it never ends.

In all honesty. I don't bother, why should I give hard earned money to someone who can give me a bit of paper to say I already do it safely.

5year gas reassessment to do before July. 3 days of lost time/money and pay out £800 for the privilege

Machine "tickets" are pretty pointless but the the actual training courses for other things can sometimes be very useful.

First aid is definitely the one that everyone should have and I definitely don't mind the 2 year refreshers.

All this stuff can be learnt online watching YouTube videos now days. But sometimes it's quicker and easier to sit in a classroom
