Trailer advice for 1.7t mini digger

Hi folks

I’m thinking of getting a general purpose trailer that I can get my Kubota U17 on. I also want to be able to take garden waste to the tip. The rules for the tip mean I need to apply for a permit. In the “not allowed” list it has

• any trailer more than three metres/10ft long;
• agricultural type trailers; and
• any vehicle which is considered by the HWRC Traffic Marshall to be of a size that cannot be safely manoeuvred around the site

this is all rather vague, but the smaller the better. Not sure what “agricultural type trailers” means!

My vehicle is a BMW X5, 3.0 diesel.

Any recommendations that might fit the bil?

I think you'll struggle to do that with one trailer, better off with one for each purpose.

I transport my u15 on an 8x4 plant trailer which is about 4m overall. There's room in the bed to go shorter but not a metre shorter and you will also lose payload on a smaller trailer.

Almost guarantee that anything that's actually useful and will take a machine will be out of their remit which is also purposely vague imo. You will be Westmorland I think so I've not had much experience trying to let's shall we say "deposit household waste" but Lancs normally states no twin axle for instance .

They say single axle only round here.

I would guess agricultural type trailer, they are thinking livestock trailer, because they cant easily look inside it before letting you in the tip site, because you may have dead calves hidden under the cardboard

No vehicle restrictions as such on tips in my area. They can get funny with vans though so normally use the discovery and this trailer, GD84

Nor can you walk in. Massive que and you've only 1 bag of waste to get rid of so you park up and walk in, lob it in skip and enjoy rest of your day......NO... you've to sit in que engine idling, wasting time....then they wonder why people get so fed up n sling it in the hedge bottom.

I know someone in transit twin wheel..."no twin h wheel vans mate"....who got that fked off with the little Hitler's here he pulled out the gate ..whipped the outers off and went back in for a 2nd attempt..

Best time to visit our tip is Monday morning when it's pissing it down. Strangely know one seems as keen to re-enact the Spanish inquisition in those conditions.

Sounds like I should get a single axle trailer for the tip and another trailer for plant. It’s all a bit bonkers., isn’t it!

Ours you have to book a slot for you can't just turn up, tbf it does work OK stops it being silly busy

Not much help, but our local tips have trailer restrictions for length but not been stopped yet, problem is that the ranger and the 10' tipper wheelbase is longer than an 8 wheel tipper/grab so front wheels are over the end weighbridge (same as majority of sites for tipping or collecting stone) or having to unhitch pull off and weight and re hitch, one time had to reverse the trailer into the bay then unhitch and park beside it

That said, i hope it hasnt changed..... as i have about 15 tipper trailer loads to take in over the next week

before getting too enthused ... what is your gross train weight for the vehicle .... it may not be up to towing 1.7t digger plus trailer
