No as in how many contact points inside the socket. All the Halfords ones I have used have been 12 point and driven right on the tip of the nut rather than back from the tip allowing more torque before rounding out.

if it's gonna be that tight it's six siders every time in my book ..... multi-point're fine if it's already loosened or nipping it back up, but for sheer grunt .. 's gotta be a hex

If you want it to undo it then it's six point socket...no ifs no buts. Or prepare for bad words and tears ...I learnt the hard way being lazy

For use with breaker bars or low tooth count ratchets. Modern ratchets make them pretty much pointless

12 point bolt heads are often used where space is restricted. They’re generally higher grade, like 12.8, and generally much smaller diameter than a hex head. Usually used where a high clamping force is required. A 12 point socket on a bi-hex head spreads the load more evenly allowing a thin walled socket to be used without the risk of slippage, even when applying a high torque.

Back on the lovely little Bahco pocket sets (the ones that Halfords have for £20 or £30 as normal full price), I was at an RS Components counter the other day and noticed they had a few by the till. On sale at £21.95. I enquired what the usual price was. £53.95! Good luck to them.
