My effort. Needed a cheap and cheerful for the K008. Tines are cut out of D6K wearing edge. I bent a guide out of 2” x 1/4” strip and “profiled” them with the bottles. Welded with 7018. It obviously hasn’t been used for a bit, but I’ve had a lot of work out of it. Got lucky with the spacing, went for 100mm. Any wider wouldn’t leave a good finish

, any narrower and it’d be blocking all the time. I’m making a thumb for the K008 out of a skid-steer quick hitch ram, as time permits.

At first I thought , 6013, because of the slag. But the weld doesn’t look like that iirc.
And I’d expect a bit more spatter from a 6013?

Tbh it’s been a while since I had the stick out

I knew you’d get it, Gra. Murex 7024, 5 mm, 300 amps, one pass, 25mm wide.I only took the picture because I was proud of the curler - not that it‘s hard with jetrods. Thanks for the praise, by the way. I know it’s nowhere near as fast as flux core, but we don’t do that much heavy stuff so I keep a few packets Of these in. Damn things don’t like DC, at least on our Miller, but run a treat on AC.

SH, if I’d run DC you’d have seen some serious spatter. I have used 5mm Murex 6013’s, I could run them on AC with less spatter than these. Tight arc, almost a drag.

Interesting thing, imho, with a big inverter on stick, AC seems better than out of either an air or oil cooled unit, DC you seem to get more blow at high currents than the old Genny welders. Is it just me?

Root cutter. Works a treat on small roots, wouldn’t last five minutes on rock. That’s another one I need to make, a proper ripper. I did have an old D6 shank, but I think the K008 would tip over if I fitted it. And yes, I know I need to weed round the shed.
cutter.

👍 If I could pull off a weld like that I’d have a photograph of it hanging in my front room mate

Funny you should say that......

they do lull you into a false sense of adequacy. That was done with no weave, just waiting for it to fill the vee and moving on. Piece of in the flat position, for fillets you turn the coal down and flatten the rod angle a lot more than any other rod or it undercuts like crazy. Vertical, forget it. If anyone’s interested I’ll take a few pictures when I get back into work.

do it as well as you can,but learn to do it better

they're a bit challenging for that Bri  .... and yes a lovely thing to use, in the right applications (y) ... and massive recovery rates :giggle::cool:

The AC from the old air or oil cooled will only have about 50v ocv (open current voltage) & the inverter will be around 80 ocv.
