I must say I do not envy you working around those. I think I would be sh*tting myself the whole time waiting for the world to disappear. And sod building a house on it
I only recently found out what our family home is built on. When dad said it was built this way and that way, I know now why...

You never know whos been there digging before and...importantly I'm glad I wasn't a miner back then...when you look at things that way...must of been horrendous

Alot of these old mine shafts were timber capped and backfilled with soil. Needless to say many of them our starting to give way. Fenced around quite a few that have collapsed entirely- just a bloody big hole in the ground! Apparently down in Cornwall there's a woodland where it's been know for whole trees since planted to drop down into old shafts and mine workings

I heard stories here where they lobbed a full tree, sent it down the shaft bushy bit first and backfill.

Further progress. I said to Joe we should hang the ropes between the two like a giant spider web for Halloween, but he said f**k that let’s go to the pub and cut them down tomorrow.

You know what the best thing about caving is?

You don’t have to do it!

I’d sooner take a bullet to the head than crawl underground through a tunnel you can barely fit through. Seriously.

Completely agree. Must be part of being a Southern softie.

I could give you some good mines to look at in the lakes. One we did was over 1km in..yes you get the odd thought about collapses but hey ho 😂

I've watched most of Action Adventure Twins vid.s in the states ... but there's a couple I just can't watch - I'm claustrophobic --- but they do film some spectacular sights - my idea of caving - armchair variety :giggle:;)

Had one of these open up recently near me. The owner of the property said it had been capped in 1924 according to the deeds.
