They roll it a lot up here now behind a quad...looks a bit sketchy tbh on the steep stuff...reckon be better with proper alpine.

The possible carcigen is the spores. This is far too early for that.
Moving gives more control of birch regen (which is also an issue) than you’d get by rolling. I do like the idea of rolling, and notice good control with a first ‘initial’ roll- regen is slower in the tyre marks after topping for example. However the effect is much less marked the second time for some reason, and rolling is also exceptionally time critical, you gotta get it in the ‘jelly candy cane’ stage which is just not practical.
Rolling with a crimper would also not do heather much good, and heather is (as planned) becoming more prevalent on these sites. Next project is a sicklebar mower mounted on the linkage for second cut- hopefully will allow similar forward speeds (around 10km/hr) but much better control of the height for accurate topping off of bracken and birch in more established heather. It should also be a lot less effort to control over rough and steep ground.

On a rare outdoor job. New water mains supply to a bungalow. New insulated mains dragged 15m through under the suspended timber floor and replace existing 3/8" Alakathene and 1/2" stoptap. We used pre insulated MLCP under the house, then external chamber to make a Plasson manifold for incoming and a couple of external taps going back out. Chamber not deep enough for regs so will make an insulating pad to drop on top of it all to try and reduce frost risk.
Had 60m of turf to cut for a trench - hired a local turf cutter and it was brilliant! Got a nice rollable turf that can go back down tidy and took maybe 15 minutes to do the lot including getting stuck on roots and buried slabs. Another beautiful day to be outside. Only annoyance was that hire company send machines out empty of fuel now.. so I filled it and used bugger all. I much prefer the take it full and bring it back full approach.. and if its not full then pay a heavy per litre charge to top up... Empty is a pain in the ass.
Got the merchants to drop a dumpy of pipe bedding straight into the tracked dumper. Saves a lot of shoveling. Needs greedy boards - probably never get round to it though.
Using the E10 for all the fiddly bits and locating services. Got a local guy coming in with a 3tonner next week to sort the main run ( the easy bit).
Everything ridiculously dry. Customer is in charge of watering the turf.

The r plate is a Honda slr650. Air cooled pretend off-roader. Similar to a dominator with less hp and less fork travel.
The right hand bike is a triumph tiger 800.
Neither are mot’d this year
