The self inflating ones are death traps in a confined space. If your machine did fall in and the life jacket inflated whilst you were in the cab it would be very difficult to get out.

I drove to Scotland this morning left 9am arrived 6pm absolute ball ache of a journeyI hope no one on here is going north on the M6 today. Shut at 32 since 2.30am.couldn't have picked a better day....deffo avoid.

Bonkers...not making light of some blokes accident and he's not injured apparently but seriously...wagon rolls a 2.30am...road reopens at 4.30pm.
How can it take that long to empty and right a single wagon? Maybe if we could claim for loss of earnings and delays etc off national highways things would move faster ...

My tech is of for a few weeks so I’m going in to sort out the workshop 
but specifically the tools. As new tools have been added they are a bit everywhere . Needs a good sort out

Picked the worst day for patching our road crossing 31 degrees exposed no shade and trying then to get it to cool to swap TM over to do other side on busy A road, also after 3 months of no action the main contractor finally decided what they were doing with disabled bedroom that needs rebuilding.
Purchase order at 2pm Friday oh we need it down and piled so masons can dress and pick it sat/sun ffs!
Only took 2 hours to get it down and kept heads and corners separate.
Also managed to get some training this week and got lads Npors dumper and digger qualified.
Home for 6 to end an 70 hour week to faceplant into paddling pool with a beer with the kids.

I agree, I just saw the life jacket and it bought back memories of some horror stories.

Even when it's hot on narrow trenches we just dump water on it and swap tm.
Moving traffic doesn't seem to mark it when done like this on trenches less than 300mm.
It's only a problem if a vehicle stops on it. So as long as tm is good then we find it fine.
We only hold off on big patches.
We also use dry lean as the back fill with only a 30mm surface course which helps to get backfilled and road open quicker.

We had to foam concrete it as corner had been recambered and they’d used football/rugby ball size stone ontop of old asphalt so voids everywhere.
We dump water and old sheets just to hold it a bit on slope worked well. 90mm base 40mm hra
Tough going had to have pecker on most time, bedrock below. Cheated on other side used 9 ton

Why did you go for such a thick base course when you have concrete below. We always just go straight for the wearing course. Hauc spec says you can drop down as low as 25mm wearing course if over concrete.
Quite a few of our reinstatements are still sound with the road failed either side giving a speed bump

The steepness of the corner meant the foam concrete was slumping, waited till 6pm racking it back uphill but still slumped so was deeper in middle by white line other side was only 100mm total
