Little job this morning raising up a cattle race. Silent diesel generator from Warrior Welders puts out plenty of juice- first job for it. Running my R-Tech 250amo mig.

Then back to yard to cut and press bars. Rigged the Sherpa up rather than pump manually, she can only manage 15t but that’s plenty for 48x4 CHS

Phil Weekes makes some nice products, fair play to him

like the a. n. other use as a power pack for the press for the lil' skidder ... press work is so much easier when you just have to operate a lever

Will finishing off with decent grey oxide. Unthinned through the battery airless sprayer. Makes easy work of it. Really good coating, no messing.

great tools ...... water pistol for paint .... got a Robin engine running mine ..... puts it on faster than you can walk the length of a big beam .... and some coat .... need to be doing a lot to warrant the faff of cleaning mine though

yes and no ..... to be able to have work of some description every day, it sometimes pays to be diverse .. as Doob says .. could get pretty severe

Or you end up taking on all the jobs that no one else wants to do like myself!

I understand the all your eggs in one basket scenario ....but just because you aren't particularly diverse doesn't necessarily mean you will be adversely effected a recession, some people specialise in things that people need regardless of the economic climate.

And If I think about the people who I know that have done well then they tend to have at least a main thing going on.

Not saying it's not a wise move to be versatile if the need arises

Yeah can't grumble really, I love what I do The comment was made in jest- but kinda think when your slipping around on a hillside covered in mud and hail blowing in your face you start to think there's got to be an easier way to earn a crust I reckon every job has its pros and cons.

I often wonder if trying to offer too much can water down your speciality? If your good at something and the work keeps coming in it can be financially easier to just equip and market yourself well for whatever you do best. Different ways of looking at it I suppose.
A fencing contractor I know won't do anything other than stock fencing. He has 3 tracked knockers running all day and booked up for ever- if he took on the other subsidiary work then the knockers would be sat idle... Just an example ..

You’ve got a point, and others keep mentioning it. But I get bored easily. Also (and it’s a big also)- I rarely go more than twenty minutes from the yard.


Next welding job for this farmer will need a digger anyhow- silage clamp repairs.

The battery one isn't too bad as it uses disposable liners. When you are finished, take the filter out and clean it. Then turn it upside down and run some thinners through it. Finish off with some blue liquid they call 'pump armour'. Run this through and then switch to purge and run a touch more through. Back in the bag.

A bit of a faff but quicker and easier for this sort of work than a brush. I run a tiny nozzle (FFLP 108) so there is very little overspray. The spray pattern must be only four inches at 12" distance.

Was a fair wack at the time for a battery tool (£600 plus VAT I think) but worth it.

site welding is a job that is almost impossible to find ppl to carry out, so you're on a winner there Doob and one likely to increase in demand ... I know of two guys round here .. both my age and unlikely to carry on much longer, with no one following on.
