You joke but we've all seen the signs about not standing on the toilet..... Some people need instruction, and the more you instruct them, the less they think for themselves!

As for traffic management in other countries, most of Europe seem to get away with a few cones and some common sense. Same for America/ Canada really and everyone always bangs on about how much they like to sue each other - you'd think they would bubblewrap everything.
Still, should be some cheap Heras/ barriers for sale in a few years time when HS2 wraps up

The standing on the toilet is a religious thing rather than stupidity.
But other than that I agree that we have been mollycoddled to the point that sites arnt safe. Health and safety was needed it came in made everything safe. But by this point it was a money making industry that had to keep finding non existent problems to justify itself. Especially as the job seems to suit a lot of people that don't particularly want to do any work and want to cruise through life to an easy retirement.
I honestly think the way this country is going with such a top heavy management structure we are going to end up a third world country.

One of the many reasons we stick to smaller or rural jobs.I no longer have the tolerance required to deal with the complete bureaucratic load of nonsense that goes hand in hand with the majority of larger contracts.Weused to run a lot of guys direct and subcontract in the building industry .I am now quite enjoying running a few machines with a couple of very good subcontractors doing some nice work under the nonsense radar.

I do a fair bit for local authorities, water company etc, every year they send out a ridiculous contractor compliancy form. I have absolute no chance of fulfilling a tick in every box and no intention of doing so either, most of them get a big fat N/A next to them. I'd have thought the form would go straight in the bin when it gets to head office but surprising how the criteria can be bypassed when they want a job doing..

it's over three years behind schedule ..... be more like six if they spent all the time putting out the temp. conc barriers everywhere too ... were used extensively on the 'Blackrock' section and spent as much time moving 'em daily, as they did actually working

Last of the Connections on our 2000m watermain job 4th and final cottage hidden away, 2m difference in garden level to path where we’d brought the pipe to. Dug down 1m thick stone retaining wall and typical a giant monolith piece so had to breakout the hilti 55mm breach bit in the DEWALT sds max that got me 600mm through it. Then swapped to 42mm 1200mm long breach bit and carried on through.

Battery sds max so much easier than corded



This cottage being refitted for let but all doors ceilings so tiny, albeit beno is 6’5”

We’ve still got to do all landscaping and parking and tidy up from main contractor so will be here few more weeks 6-8 I’d guess and then get paid by main contractor lol

Been I hiding in the land of Rory for a couple days/nights at a disclosed location for safety from being a jam first believer one more night and then home safe across the border before detection of my beliefs is found out, been hard to hold my tongue while here

We were in Dunraven Bay this afternoon where the nice human takes four pound coins for the days parking
Quick stopover on the way home from a week at Pembery sands where they have a fancy parking machine that only the regulars seem to be able to make work
It did encourage us to find the back way in to Pembrey Park to access the beach and had the pleasure of watching the Hercules practicing beach landings only a little way up from us

Did sound good, surprisingly quiet though, heard an approaching piston engined aircraft and jumped up to see what it was and was startled to see four engines and the distinctive tail. It was heading Bristol/Bath direction and I'd imagine that on the approach to it's target it would have been just as discrete

Totally agree, it may be fashionable to be critical of their actions these days but in their time and in their place they did us proud
