Good end to the story thankfully.. older people can be abit more trusting can't they!Just some info for anyone who's interested. Father in law got scammed for 10k buying a Sprinter. He wouldn't even tell me he was looking for one, (72 years old) not sure why they get all secretive at that age?anyway, he flies down to London, guys texting him "I'm 20 minutes away, have you transferred the funds?" he transfers them
he waits another hour, texts the guy 3 or 4 times and tries to phone him, guy eventually texts back "go home mate, you've been scammed". He was a bit of a mess in the airport apparently, manager had to sit him down in a starbucks and get him a tea to settle his nerves. He was now stuck in the airport on a Friday at 6pm, couldn't get a flight home as was expecting to drive the Sprinter back, so had to find Premier Inn. He contacted his bank they said "sorry you shouldn't have sent it if you didn't know the person goodbye". Again, he's still not told any of us sitting at home in Scotland, but finally phones us on the Saturday at lunch time (embarrassment/shame?). I offered to drive down and collect him but he had managed to find a flight, got home and was very dejected. I had some experience with fraud in the past so told him to start collecting his communication with the bank, emails, record phonecalls, write down his time lines etc. Anyway long story short, he got the financial ombudsman involved and because the lady on the phone didn't transfer him immediately to the fraud department (clocking out time on a Friday night maybe?) the ombudsman settled in his favour and awarded him 100% of his losses from the bank. Took a few months though and his arse was making buttons the whole time but at least he got it back.
Stay safe out there....but honestly, who the feck would transfer money without seeing it??![]()
