Do promisery notes still hold weight in today's society?

Or is it like that civils firm that went tits (can I bugger remember their name right now) that held a precious stone with values that they borrowed against. And it all collapsed like a house of cards.

was not aware of the temporary high balances bit ... was wetting myself when McC&S bucks came in, 'til I got it all spread out, here there and everywhere I could think of, which weren't connected to each other, in any shape or form :rolleyes:

Yup only just...
In reality it doesn't make any difference. No government in the UK is going to let a bank default. They either nationalise them or pressure one of the others to take it over.
There is some thought that the deposit gaurantee scheme encourages more high risk lending as the banks owners (shareholders) know the bank will be propped up to that amount so they are able to take bigger gambles on high risk loans in the hope some pay off with massive returns, but with limited downside if it all goes wrong.

Rolls Royce still going up at a stinking rate. So far had a 13.44% return on the shares I bought back beginning of November. Thought I'd rather missed the boat but🤷

Babcock supposed to be even better at the moment (perhaps unsurprisingly)- probably a good one to have shares in..
