do it as well as you can,but learn to do it better
the trouble is Smiffy is that they want to plant them on farmland currently in use to produce food, for some company somewhere to offset carbon for their continuation of 'life as normal' - not change their practices .. BBNP own huge swathes of the black mountains on which many upland farmers graze their animals .. without their hill rights most aren't viable, without the additional requirement to use 10% of their land for trees as well ... you can't eat trees ... this week a lot of farmers around here had notice served on them to desist from grazing their animals on the hills from the land owners (duke of beaufort being one) they've all got the pound signs flashing before their eyes ... these hill rights go back generations.Planting a decent tree stock isn't the worse thing in the world as long as some one has the sense to manage them. I doubt building will stop but the materials used will change and we currently import a lot of timber. It's a hell of a lot better than paving over the fields which is all they do in the southeast.
Although I do get it that they have entirely the wrong motivation behind the tree planting.
Seriously thinking about moving to the Welsh border and trying to figure out which side would be best to set up camp
