Temporary Traffic Lights

Potentially have need for a set of two way lights on a project I'm working on. Unfortunately can't be done on Stop and Go's which i would normally prefer if it was short term work or if a straight road give way with priority over on one side.

I'm considering due to the length of time if it would be best to purchase a used set, however the old, diesel generator in a trailer seems to have fallen out of favour in preference to battery units, like we had onsite when I was a kid, lol, remember having to run manually a 4 way set on a busy junction into Manchester one Monday morning when they'd failed and where all on red and traffic built up.

Forever seeing on LinkedIn people complaining that the batteries are being stolen or the lights stolen even with trackers.

Was thinking if I got a trailer set, could potentially run the lights off 110v, with generator as back-up so no need to keep checking oil and fuel whilst in place for a few months as opposed to keep swapping batteries out.

I'm looking at the auctions to see what money we are talking about.

Anyone any experiences with two way lights then here? Avoid like the plaque?

The signage isn't a problem, done loads of that and already have a bit up around this job already for various bits

If they're going to be up for a while could you do the concrete base version and just wire back to a remote location in the site, prevents people nicking them and or the generator.

Just hire a tm firm to do a complete package. Streetworks are so strict on fines for private contractors to try and claw back money for the council. They do all the checks and take responsibility.
You will end up with so much hassle. And if something goes wrong a tm company has the resources to sort it.
We have had batteries randomly fail lights randomly fail. Cars go through the tm and destroy all the signs and cones. Whole sets of chapter nicked. And all these will shut the site down if you don't have instant access to replacements.

Like Smiffy says, get someone in, local council were inspecting our last ones 2 or 3 times a day! Never seen them so strict!

Council revenue collection when it suits. I wish I’d got a photo of work being done outside council headquarters in matlock, heras fence panels over pavement into carriageway…no signs, warnings or traffic lights at all!

They don't make any revenue fining themselves.
Our highways are run by an external company. Therefore all council work is under huge scrutiny as tm is one of the kpi's therefore no fines as such but at the end of the year if they fail enough sites they can claw back a huge some of money. Then you go to the next county that is run in house and tm is non existent

Derbyshire is still run in-house but with some subcontractors as far as I know. Always looks to be plenty of people out and about just not sure how many are actually working
