Tragedy as workman is killed after he becomes trapped in a trench

Police were called to the workplace incident at Potten End near Hemel Hempstead along with fire service and ambulance crews just before 11.30am on Friday.

Reading through a few bits and it's saying it was a family firm .
One says his father and son were there too.

Awful incident . One of the comments mentions a similar incident in Aylesbury years ago . It was actually 1985 it was my father . Horrendous time for that family regardless of blame etc .

There was a incident filmed on a tv program I think it was ‘code red’ following the HART team, the guy was extremely lucky to survive that one, was over 3 meters deep no props in narrow trench surrounded by services.. not a nice watch at all!

This was a Ringway site. The news has filtered through the system to the departments we work for as we work for Ringway but a different county. They are going into overdrive on health and safety but the horse has already bolted. We have a gang on drainage tomorrow albeit less than 1m deep so they are being audited. The subby company involved are on same contract as us and are a well respected and professional company.

Never good when something like this happens . All the H and S sometimes just can’t cover a human error momentary lapse . I bet we’ve all been there and got away with it at some point and life goes on. I know I have and I’ve got a big reminder to be very safety conscious .

I'm in this club, we do it, we take a chance. Ive done it knowing the risk. Would I do it if someone else had asked me to do it...well there's a question.

Would I ask someone to do it for me is another.

Would I still do it on my own based on what I see knowing if it goes wrong.
