Hello everyone.

I’m trying to get my street works certificate so I can work on the road, I have had a couple jobs come in lately that require it and I have had to turn them down.

Anyone on here have and can point me in the right direction please?

I have done the roads sighns module.
It is literally impossible to fail the test was so simple you had all the answers Infront of you and for one candidate who had been sent by the job centre the trainer just stood over him correcting his papers until they where correct
Started at 8 finished half 2
The other modules are the same I'm told

Not to put you off but bear in mind streetworks is a legal requirment for work on the highway/roads.Can only speak for northern ireland but very recently over here the police have calmped down big time on road workers/ crews for sign distances, incorrect signs crappy cones/ ped barriers and i believe 2 guys are up in court very soon for the above.. all police over here are trained for signing lighting and guarding so can do random checks and have been doing them.. plus if you are looking to do streetworks as part of your business id say youd have to do the supervisors course on street works.. not 100 on that.. and like i say can only speak for over here i know there are some wee differences even though its the same law

Do you know who to contact for this mate?

I did mine with willibar and associates training

In UK it is whoever holds the highway maintenance contract for the county council who pull you up
The easiest thing to do is rent any sighns and lights for the job
They will drop them to your yard or the sight all be clean undamaged and up to spec
Keeping your own sighns they get damaged so quickly would end up more expensive in the long run

Northern ireland is mostly rural too haha lol and yea same here i wouldn't cut corners cause i don't really want to be stood in front of the guy with a wig on.. but then again its other people trying to rush.. over here too now you have to get a permit to put temporary traffic lights on all A and some B class roads. I did my streetworks course bout 6 years ago and refreshed it there last year and it was no doddle no trainer helping you, any answers you had to search for in the streetworks bible. Last day we had to set up a full traffic light set up on a main road. Full chapter 8 were 4 of us doing it and all class 3 hiviz jackets and trousers. That being said the guy training us was from dept for infrastructure their head trainer.. man was a fountain of knowledge.

Id check up on that now as northern ireland is the uk too and its all.the one streetworks law thing lol it was just traffic branch over here that were trained on chapter 8 but now its all the police.

I considered doing it before but personally didn't see the point as ideally you'd need at minimum a 7.5t wagon and associated tarmac kit so the cost alone for that side of it ruled it out for me.

Not the police you will have issue with.

Councils will have there own customary wanker... s**t loads of paperwork to apply for permits, s**t loads of bullshit regarding widths and access.... they can and will fine you for any indescrepancy, oh and question your reinstatement etc etc.

Cheaper to subcontract the work out!

What do i require if i need to dig a privately owned bank but i have to operate the machine (1.5 ton) on a small village road? I'm under the assumption i need street works certificate still.

A contractor with signing lighting and guarding ticket, cones, lights etc and a lane closure notice.

We use KJ Thulbournes or Amberon. Give them plenty of notice and it's no bother.

Only if you are doing the kerb I believe at least we do this all the time and we only have the one module to put the sighns out
Dont even need a permit if it's a 30mph road working with chapter 8 signage

No kerb trench will be excavated 400mm in from the main road. Its a 30mph road. So all i need to do is subcontract a company in such as KJT to put signs up?

Might have to do a traffic count to see exactly what signage as there is a limit on chapter 8 signage but essentially yes and TM will sort everything as to if you have to upgrade to lights and permits if required
You essentially don't have to do anything bar turn up
They can also do electric stop go boards if you regularly want to stop all traffic

What exactly are you doing? If you are NOT digging in the highway and just seating on the road then I would guess you need appropriate signage. If you are digging in the highway then you need a licence and all the requirements that brings.
