Just replaced the windscreen on the Kobelco after doing some farm clearing up. Need make me thing there is a reason why forestry machines have all the guards. Thankfully the screen slowed the progress of the wayward trunk that was heading my way!! Also made my think about using a grab!!

If you like an element of danger in your work then use a timber grab (unequal sides that close through each other) to pinch and then lift posts/road pins/old signs etc out of the ground. Sometimes everything is fine, other times as soon as what you are lifting clears ground-level it fires out in the direction of the smaller shell at considerable pace, usually with a nice windmilling action...

Weld two strips of 25mm square bar onto the flat part of the main chassis of the grab
If you push down on the post before grabbing them this should catch any kick out

Well what about a compromise
Beat the feck out of things with the grab until the bottom is caved in slightly
This diver will increase the chance of things not going flying whilst not completely eliminating it.

Am I the only chronic seat belt wearer?
My neighbors boyfriend is a plumber with an excavator. He hears my machine running through the woods and walks over. First comment "youre wearing the seatbelt! I never even put mine on!"
Next time I see him, he tells me how he almost knocked himself out hitting his forehead on the ROPs bar, blood everywhere. Now he understands and wears one. I'm ok with being a wimp.

Well I’ll be honest from being small, I was always told to wear the seat belt in a machine when I could get on the hot seat, probably mainly to stop me slipping off the seat as I could only just touch the floor.
However few years ago, I wore one on a 1T Dumper and let’s just say. If I hadn’t have been wearing the seat belt, air ambulance wouldn’t have had to attend.
The seat belt actually caused me more damage. I’m not saying that’s always the case and you have to make your own choice but in this instance it was, since then I’m very wary of the things! Always do what is right for you, your life.

I took the damn thing off the E10, it was forever getting in the way of doing anything.

What kinda ROPs what on that, just a single hoop, or none? And what happened? In tractors with a single hoop or no hoop, i don't wear one, but on my Tak with a strong 4 post ROPs and FOPs I always buckle up.
