Have you seen the dumbass scrotes who go around stealing them? They are just thicko idiots.. and lots of them doing it! At one point the ‘kit’ could be purchased off eBay and you could go happily stealing what you wanted - within reason.
Manufactures have updated security features big time lately - we have just had a 1/3rd reduction in car insurance which for one of the most stolen vehicle types is huge!

This said id much rather have my car remotely stolen than having an axe put to my throat like one of my mates once had whilst parked in derby mcdonalds!!

Obviously the case, my point is with the correct kit in hand it’s easy to walk up to a car and steal it, or at least it was.

Sorry I meant that it's more than just a bunch of Herbert's nicking what's not screwed down. I think that's more the case with power tools. The mass theft of cars is a bit more organized and planed.

With the hilux, you can take it to toyota and they will fit a tracker FOC. Then when it does go, you ring a number and they will find it for you. Its not a tracker you have access to, it purely for when it's nicked and you ring up telling them it's gone

Never knew that!
Costs us about 250/yr for Landrover tracker subscription.. it does give us instant access to it and remote start etc which is nice on a frosty morning!

As to where it's going to, i've heard Ireland and Ukraine are popular destinations. Straight to a ferry and off it goes, nobody checks.

Why are all us irish lads on this forum when it's uk based, must be looking to steal machines are we? Or maybe just looking to get a heads up on a big peat muckshift that's coming up

Apologies for grouping crims and innocent people together, my bad, i'll edit it.
FWIW they're probably on there to see who reports what's been stolen and where, not to buy it. People who steal are scum, but they're not daft either.

Most trackers are pointless, the people who steel vehicles already know where they are fitted. Way back in the late 2000's I had ( still do but it's in bits at the moment) a B5 Audi RS4 which they broke into the house in the dead of night to get the keys for, when it was found ( police was already watching the gang so knew where it was! ) they had ripped out the rear interior boot panels on the drivers side, when the insurance company said the car was going to a couple of months getting back to me, I asked why it's only a boot trim, there was no stock world wide because "there had been a sudden demand for that panel!" So someone who fitted trackers had told the criminal world where the common place was.
The only thing worth buying for the newer generation vehicles is a Ghost immobiliser https://autowatch.co.uk/veh-sec/ghost-2-menu , fantastic bit of kit and well worth the money, and as a back up buy a couple of different air tags and chuck them in the body work somewhere, Plod won't do anything but if you have a spare key and a few friends, you can always go and repatriate it yourself.

They have scanners to detect where trackers are. Failing that they leave whatever it is somewhere for a few days and see what happens, if nothing then it's taken elsewhere for the same or dealt with accordingly.

Air Tags not all that, they alert other users if tracking ( probably to stop them being used for nefarious purposes / following women home that sort of thing ) I have tried using them on all the van keys rings but lads get pissed off with constant beeping and notifications.

After losing a loadall and a digger in the last twelve months,I’ve decided a hidden imobiliser/kill switch is the answer.

I’ve a loadall laid up at the minute with an electrical fault,hasn’t run in two weeks so when I find the fault I know where to wire a switch in.
