where you can come unstuck is that a particular starter may have been superseaded several times and the starter you really want is a much newer number.

I too have always had good service from them
My experience of Japanese alternators and starters is that they are so well made that it's well worth giving them a good service with new brushes and keep them going

HC Cargo are £134.34 + vat, and also list parts if you wanted to go the repair route.

I've been going the leave the key turned and tap it with the hammer route
... but dont think I will go the repair route got no bloody time, so will chuck it on the shelf and maybe have a look when it's raining or rather leave it on shelf till I retire then wonder what it came off and bin it.

This is the one I was thinking off... it may be different, it maybe of a perkins engine. I can check the workshop as I'm nearly sure there was a Kubota one somewhere.

do it as well as you can,but learn to do it better
you need some paint marker pens -- write on it what it's off ......... then bin it

I put a new starter in my skidsteer not long ago @maz will be pleased to know Kubota engine was surprised when it was only £112 for new one, came from great place in Salford that have every starter under the sun little unassuming trade counter job but absolute wealth of knowledge on all things starters.

Not in a 3tonner? Thought jcb engines only went in 6ton+ dumpers? Am a tad out of date with what they are up to these days mind you.
