I'm sure bt bloke told me 12v and 24v when it rings. Could explain the crap service you get from them when something is wrong if they all think something different.

Honestly it’s not that easy. I have backup battery’s for our system but it’s surprising how little they last . Your talking hours not days

This is why I put the idea out there. If full time battery isn't going to work I'd rather know than spend out building a system that will keep failing.

What about a clever bit of kit?....runs unlimited on a red liquid or white...😎 No battery's required I predict it will be the fuel of the future once battery's are out of fashion.

Trouble is it is a remote site I'll visit once or twice a year unless there are problems. Hence the cameras to alert me to problems. Want something that will just chug along on it's own and I can drop in vitually when I feel like it. Then if there has been any issues review the old footage to find out what has been going on.

do it as well as you can,but learn to do it better
I might take you up on that.
I'm thinking of buying a remote site as an investment and would have more peace of mind if I can occationally have a look on line to see all is okay and if any problems be able to scroll back to see what is going on. Currently doesn't have power or phone, but does have 5g coverage.
remote from you Gra, or just 'REMOTE' from anywhere??

About 5 hours remote from me. In a built up area, but currently no services and not adjacent to a road, so don't know about running power in over the right of way. Only thinking of buying it and thinking of plans.

You need cloud based recording then. It will likely be easiest to get a 4g router, get a big 110 battery or a few and a decent solar charge panel. Then get some ring battery cams with the solar panel also . Set the motions right down so it’s sensitivity is low snd see how that goes. You could trial it at home with a old digger battery etc.
Winter will be the months with issues, on the canal boat forums the guys with solar basically write it off over the winter months but there also powering a boat. A 4G router is all your trying to power

I've wondered about camera's, for me it's not really nessecary as the yard is shared and security exists, upgraded last year when caravan utilising nomadic travellers attempted to steal a digger (they got stuck in the field thankfully and the desperate revving of engines alerted someone).

That being said i do have solar power as there's no leccy on my unit (40' lorry trailer) and previous experience as having lived on a narrow boat made it easy for me to do. The main problem is not killing batteries by using more power than they can afford, either buy a low voltage shut off on a top quality charge controller, or ensuring you have enough charge trickling in when it's cloudy, or a large enough battery bank that can last until the sun starts shining again.

It's handy to have the solar for lights, cordless battery charging etc. if you don't have power.

Best place I have found for solar, if you go down that route, is this place:

It's easy to install if you have basic electrical knowledge and can follow instructions.

I would be budgeting £2-3k for a reliable setup.

No, that one fell through because of the people selling it. That would have been much easier to manage as I know people locally and I was buying up to the pavement so could have run mains power, but there you go, think how boring life would be if it were all easy.

not that near. I’ll reveal all if I buy it, but not that interesting. Just a lack of good opportunities down near me. For example I’ve been looking for a yard to buy as I currently rent for over ten years, but anything that comes up goes for housing and given how they stuff them in these days I can’t get anywhere near that sort of money.
It only seems to work if you are a traveller. Some fields came up for sale locally and after the sale they got subdivided and caravans moved in on each small part as well as numerous animals, trailers, commercial vehicles etc and the council aren’t interested, but the guy who works for me has a bit of land with a barn on it and when he replaced the door with a galvanised one they were straight on to him with threats of persecution if he didn’t get it painted as per the old one.
