They have started fining sub contractors £120 per health and safety infringement
This is literally anything that isn't exactly by the book
We where told as well as the normal ppe risk assessment working practices that you would expect it will include
Road sighns not scratch free clean and correctly spaced incorrect chapter 8 on the back of vehicles and torn cone sleeves
One guy said they bought a trundle wheel out to check the sighns spacing on a set of temporary traffic lights

That's brutal, surprised if many don't walk

In the days when I was a subbie you soon realised that you need to work for the one whose job it was rather than a MC that was only able to make money by robbing you!

So Shayler Group in trouble and heading for Administration.
Kier group deciding house building needs cash (which they are short of) and builders emptying dustbins (Facilities Management) doesn’t make any money. Not convinced that the job losses are real as someone else will step on where they step off!! But there is a trend of going back to what you know rather than being a jack of everything is a better business model!!

Niche market firm, leader in it's sector, after 15 years gets multi million investment, expansion £100 million turnover 'plans',investor bank realises not quite bought into what it thought, brings in city bigwig,no clear plans, more management
Dec 2017 bank realises shortfall in horizon for next spring, limps along then 1 day from closure Feb 2018 'bought' by American 'investors' for a quid, hefty fees from original investor to get firm 'off their books'?
More management arrives,clear plan????
Work in traditional money maker dwindles, trys to 'buy' work elsewhere, previous problems due to poor management control, cost accounting/invoicing,looses £1 million a month turnover, significant eoy loss
Just recently hardly any machines out, gone from 7 days/ nights week to one, blokes sat at home, management recruited from outside traditional area of business, new investors told several jobs keep firm going till expected big one kicks off n money rolls in,none did.
Emailed redundancy off administrators,firm sunk

Yet again a typical example of people coming into business that they know nothing about, Kier have been in trouble for ages, it must have been about seven years ago it sold of its own tower crane division to HTC, once upon a time in the 70's they were a medium sized house building company with its own plant painted dark blue, then over the years the expanded and start to dabble in other services that they know nothing about. if you look at any of these large corporate companies they have all over the last few years been trying to hoover up the smaller companies and take over or merge with each other, it's all down to boardroom greed! Most of these people at boardroom level are either from the same old boys club or from London and have not an ounce of experience within the sector that they are working. the same happened with Royal Bank of Scotland the board room was full of people that had no banking background, but hey remember they all walk away with a nicer gold plated pension or huge share option that they quickly convert into cash before the business crashes, There really needs to be a proper law and accountability for these leaches of business.

Before the company was sold last Feb,the bits not wanted were bundled into another LTD co,with a name that wouldn't 'contaminate' the remaining firm, and put into administration,so two lots of administrators, consultants to 'help' through ' the sale process, all big earners, and insolvency ,ie tax, left to pick up pieces for 200 staff

They are trying to claw back everything they can at the moment the internal fining system is in overdrive even one of there own supervisors said that the new contracts they are putting out for street works are impossible to make money from
Its even worse working on the borders between county's as you can watch the Balfour guys from one county pack up and leave before the Kier gangs from the next county have finished doing health and safety rubbish

was told this week that Balfour Beatty are running Herefordshire's planning dept. FFS :eek: ... WTF is that all about? bloody insanity :mad::mad:

So have Kier finally gone tits up ? ..... or are they about to drop off the cliff ?

" Construction outsourcer Kier Group spooked investors on Monday morning as it admitted an 'accounting error' had forced it to recalculate its net debt as £50m higher than previously stated. " ...

" its net debt of more than £600m at the time. "

" Kier shares fell another 12.7 per cent today. " .....

and that's on top of .......

" Kier shares plummet 40 percent .. in December on the news it was to sell new shares to existing investors at a knock-off one-third discount in a bid to raise £264m to slash into its net debt of more than £600m .... Despite the rights issue flopping, with just 37.6 per cent of the new shares taken up by existing investors, it was underwritten by Kier’s bankers, who stumped up the rest "

plus other falls since ...HTF are they still afloat ....:confused::unsure:

My father lives near leominster in Herefordshire and was part way through planning for a shed when the planning department ground to a halt I think there was a couple of suicides from memory and several people quit leaving the whole of Herefordshire without a planning department so I presume Balfour's stepped in as it was chaos

I agree but it seems to be how these council contractors work they seem to take on a little bit more at a time until the council are reliant on them then they can dictate what they like

Kiera are the same or another trick they have is carrying out audits on things that have nothing to do with them to try and take more and more control

They have started auditing borough council and parish council issued jobs within claiming that as they are the principal contractor for the county
This makes no sense as no money is going through them so it costs them money to audit with no gain but the council let's them
