snow chains

Anyone ever used snow chains. I've got a Nissan cabstar and if it goes anywhere near grass or off the hard it gets stuck. Was wondering if they would work in this manner

I understand they work well in the mud but I have never witnessed this for myself.

Is it on 16" wheels this gives you a range of tyre options.

They aren’t much fun to fit, and I’d imagine less so when you’re stuck (plus taking them back off covered in mud would be pretty miserable too)... We run 4x4 tyres on the back of our cabstars which helps a lot, and always have a tow rope with us!

leccy winch on the front'd be a good idea too ... if it's a regular issue Dylan ... or on a quick mount with Anderson or Dinse plugs front an' back .... best of both worlds then

What he said. Right faff if you need to do it semi regularly, you're better off getting knobbly tires or a 4x4.\

However they will give you traction like you wouldn't believe.

It's more going across a field, your not down to the axle. It just spins the surface .annoying really.

Single. Twins aren't as bad,less pressure and more footprint

I've done a bit of muck shifting in me youth, worst thing was a foden hook lift with a automatic gear box, useless on tip. Late 80s truck

If you put knobbly tyres on, just check that they are the correct ply rating for the truck.

We used to have, still have somewhere, a four legged mechanical claw type thing that you clamped round the tyre, worked quite well in mud on our old Cabstar’s. No idea if you can still get them?

That is exactly what I’ve got, they are quick and easy, got us out of many a muddle!
We were given them by a friend, I have no idea where you’d purchase them from now? As we have had them about 25 years I reckon, but they are exactly as shown in the above pics
