I want a small portable compressor to run my 24g and 18g brad guns. Ive been looking at this
would that run something bigger that fires 60mm nails?
I’d want a bigger unit for that size gun.

Milwaukee is where it’s at for me now for nailers. The same capacity and power from a battery- no hoses or power outlet required.

100% agree.
Unless you doing production nailing you can cover every base.
We've got the M18 first fix and the M12 23g .
Also had a head to head with some lads with paslode and bostitch with the M18 . Let's just say they were red-faced no faffing with gas and loads quieter. If a tad heavier

if you're hell bent on air, for the extra 40 quid this looks a better option

the issue with the battery nail guns is cost - for the tool and the batteries :rolleyes:
can see the advantages, but also the disadvantages:unsure:

I have had a gas first fix nailer before but it was a big heavy and unreliable thing. I though i would go for air 24g and 18g because they were £45 and £70. Little battery nailers are £300 plus and im only fannying around making cupboards for our house at the moment so no fancy gear needed.
My thoughts for first fix are to use it for fencing as i use an impact driver at the moment.
To be honest for the fencing i will probably stick with the impact driver as i only do little domestic ones.

I have the 50l twin motor version and it's mint but doesn't like being in the back of the van as there are lots of sticking out fittings and no good way to strap it. Those silent motors are brilliant you can stand next to them and talk to someone

The one you suggested will happily run your guns and would run a bigger gun if you needed it to you just won't be able to bang 40 nails in a n a row without having to wait a minute

We run a 20ltr 110v makita compressor. Have a framing nailer, ppn nailer, 23g pinner and a 18g pinner. We also have paslode framers and 16g pinner. Even though its pain luging compressor the air tools are great especially if you have alot to do. The tools are so much lighter than the pure battery ones even with hose dragging and they are reliable as a wood burning stove. Am considering a smaller battery compressor for running pinners and just getting the big one out for bigger tools. 8ltr is plenty for running second fix guns.

Look at the manual for the air guns as it will give you the cfm that's needed then check air compressor ratings

absolutely .. regardless of tank size it's the cubic feet per minute (CFM) that it produces that is the greatest issue - the speed at which it can maintain a fully pressurised tank and flow of air to the tool
a 4cfm unit running a tool requiring 6cfm to run efficiently will be painfully slow to use

easiest example is a nut runner/windy gun .. with an inadequate unit powering it, it will start fine and slowly run down in power and speed as the supply diminishes... a 10cfm gun will always perform at it's peak with a unit of say min. 15cfm or more, powering it

I have the dewalt 54v 10l compressor for pressure testing water mains and blowing the off dumper tyre up where the 18v tyre inflator takes too long.

Haven’t used air nailer for years all paslode or now got the dewalt battery 1st and 2nd fix don’t get unless in workshop why you’d still be on air on site etc.

Only air nailer of note would be the big 5 half inch one American framers use

Yes but nail guns are a bit different the first fix guns will run fine unless your doing something daft like building pallets where your on the gun constantly

I get what you're saying ...
they're a non-continuous demand, unless you're banging nails in, one after the other, on a run say ...
not a tool I've ever used myself ...
(seen them used a lot in the timber frame guys' factory, but they had a serious air supply.)
the CFM demand on them would only be in a continuous usage scenario.

cfm on the 24g is 4 and the 18g is 4.5.
Small compressors should manage them easily. I bought a Milwaukee 1st fix to replace my air coil nailer, mainly as couldn't be arsed with faffing around running lines when doing my roof and studwork.
The air coil nailer is great and the nails are mega cheap something like sub £50 for 9000 but haven't done any fencing in years

If your doing a lot with air nailers these are awesome bits of kit, But very expensive. I prefer extra time setting up than using gas nailers now, especially the low levels of noise.
