PS lasted a month with JCB, now delivering pizzas ā€œto top up his (we suspect otherwise non-existent) wage.

Anyway, lightning has struck twice. Four weeks ago, we started a plater-welder. 25 years experience, done the lot, pipelines, structural, all processes, also a hydraulic specialist, electrician, tuning wizard, super bike racer, professional cage fighter - ā€œmy hands are deadly weaponsā€ (my money would still be on the budgie), runs four miles every night, as well as having a second job as a crane driver (ā€œI don’t have a ticket, my mate lets me drive). Travelled in from Northampton every day, just over a hour. We reckoned Northampton must have a hell of a college, nearly every day he reckoned he’d got a different qualification.

Needless to say the ability didn’t remotely match the talk, and neither did the timekeeping so he was gone after three weeks. There’s levels of bullshit, but this chap was truly delusional. Must have been if he could show me a slag filled weld that didn’t follow the joint and tell me with a straight face that he’d never failed an x-ray.
A couple years ago joinery shop opposite us had a cv posted. When you added up the guys experience it was more than the age from when he started workšŸ™ˆ

We do laugh about these people, but it’s truly sad that they end up like this. I often wonder how they start down this route in the first place, because they’re not often totally daft. I’ve met no end, mostly operators, who exaggerate their experience to get a job, but usually back off once they’re in and end up decent blokes to work with. The truly delusional ones are much rarer, but they’re out there. When you listen to them, you wonder if they actually believe what they’re saying and if they think you believe them. I get to a point where I turn off and just won’t work with them. There’s enough who want to work and learn that I’d rather put my time into.

Had a labourer working with us, if you closed your eyes and listened to him you’d of swore blind he was an astronaut!! The amount of times he’d been into space was impressive!
Well, some of these gentlemen do seem to live on a different planet.

We recently had some civils done around one of the units. Job subbed to a CDIM company who farmed out the work to a variety of lowest bidders. Somewhere along the line a self employed operator turned up, probably into his fifties and with this ā€œI know the lot, I’ve seen/done the lotā€ attitude. He was on a seven tonne Tak when I needed to speak to him, so I waited til he saw me and walked up to his cab door. Rather than open the door, he swung round with the loaded bucket over my head so he could talk to me through the open front window. I opened his cab door anyway and asked if he usually put the bucket over peoples heads. No answer.

Other capers were loading a crappy old Benford dumper while the driver was still on the seat. Soon got that one stopped, and the best, using a jackhammer right underneath his own bucket which was left about ten feet in the air. Spoke to the CDIM manager who didn’t seem to want to know.

I’m sure you’re a handsome devil, Rory. Anyone met him face to face? I need to know he’s real.

I know this is a bit sad, but I’ve just re-read the threads started by Moving Earth (the ā€œpassive incomeā€ guy who nearly made Gra’s blood pressure go through the roof) and Revaar, the new age nut job who regularly pops up under different names and tries to get us doing the Hairy Krishna stuff. Don’t know why but those two threads made me laugh more than anything I’ve seen online or on the telly in ages. Still wish I could see the full Soopadupa thread from the old forum.
