Seems more for this thread but also a few others....

In keeping with the area. A friend used to bike from Hartlepool to Sunderland via, "...the shithole pit villages of East Durham" and once reported seeing a trailer hacked together from a pair of van axles, being towed by a horse, driven by a pair of tracksuits. Full of fridges, obviously. He didn't think it was any kind of equine lifestyle choice, just what was available to the plucky local industrialists at the time.

unf****ngbelievable .... how could anyone in their right mind set off with a load like that ....

As I and others have said I reckon he's seen an opportunity and gone with it. I find it hard to believe that a pile of rebar would end up looking like that for any 0ther reason than it's been chucked on there as quick as possible to nick it. I find it hard to believe that any contractor big enough to be using that much rebar in one hit is going to be running around quite that bent. And there not be atleast one person on site to call him out.

Chancers revisited: revisited.
Said gentleman finished before Christmas, is currently deployed by a main dealer for a major UK manufacturer of 3CX’s. Posted a selfie onto Faceache while driving up a main Road in a telehandler. Not too sure he’s got a major future there. Now replaced here by an ex-motor Trade tech, top lad in his mid-20’s, who’s taken to the job like a duck to water. They are out there, you just have to look hard and get lucky.

Just posted this to highlight not to expect too high a level of after-sales support for a certain yellow brand from a dealer in the Norfolk/Suffolk area. The last job I set him doing was changing the fifth wheel on our shunter. Two days to undo and re-tighten 12 bolts. I gave up after that.
PS lasted a month with JCB, now delivering pizzas ā€œto top up his (we suspect otherwise non-existent) wage.

Anyway, lightning has struck twice. Four weeks ago, we started a plater-welder. 25 years experience, done the lot, pipelines, structural, all processes, also a hydraulic specialist, electrician, tuning wizard, super bike racer, professional cage fighter - ā€œmy hands are deadly weaponsā€ (my money would still be on the budgie), runs four miles every night, as well as having a second job as a crane driver (ā€œI don’t have a ticket, my mate lets me drive). Travelled in from Northampton every day, just over a hour. We reckoned Northampton must have a hell of a college, nearly every day he reckoned he’d got a different qualification.

Needless to say the ability didn’t remotely match the talk, and neither did the timekeeping so he was gone after three weeks. There’s levels of bullshit, but this chap was truly delusional. Must have been if he could show me a slag filled weld that didn’t follow the joint and tell me with a straight face that he’d never failed an x-ray.
