Short term insurance.

Can anyone recommend an outfit that do short term plant insurance?

I was getting quoted £2k+ a year to insure my 3CX which sits around not doing much on my small holding, so I decided not to bother and take "precautions" to prevent theft and hope it doesn't catch fire!

Anyways, I have some land elsewhere... next to a nature reserve and approx. 20m of ditch is blocked causing some of their (the reserve) land to flood in 2019, I called a couple of contractors and everyone was "busy" and either didn't come back... or quoted silly money. COVID got in the way and now they've reported me to the council and I've had a threatening letter from the council quoting "Section 25 Land Drainage Act 1991" - so I need to sort it.

I've got the machine, but need to get it 12miles to site... it's not more than a days work so just need cover for road risk really.

Any suggestions much appreiated. (y)

I'd have to admit to having thoroughly enjoyed some "let's just road it" trips 😀 , amazing the nice people you meet when resting at the side of the road 😊
it's the ones in uniform you need to avoid though :(

Insure it as a vintage tractor 😉

Ahem... I would of thought with the insurance industries tendacy to look for reasons not to pay out, that would be a bit of a waste of money... or am I missing something?

It's an 98/99 model also... does something under 25yrs old warrant "vintage"?

Yes, over 20 years is classic.
You couldn't use it for business use, but for trotting around playing it's perfectly acceptable and why that type of insurance exists.
Lets face it whether it's £100, or £100,000 the legalised fraudsters will drag there heels..... Better to be defrauded of £100 than £2000 isn't it.

Ah... well it's owned by my business as it has alot of VAT on it, which I will reclaim once I've moved it on when surplus to requirement.... so that probably wouldn't work.

Come to think of it... Barnes Plant never sent me a logbook. Am I right in thinking it should have a logbook, its got a number plate???

How exactly do you plan on reclaiming the VAT when you sell a machine?

surely you reclaimed the VAT paid in the quarter you bought it in ???? .... did John advertise it with a V5, if so, give him a call and jog his memory .. he's straight as ...... otherwise apply to Swansea for a new V5
