You need Tek screws with a finer thread. Will go through steel 12mm thick no problem. I think I recently saw some that would go through up to 18mm but they were pricey.

never seen a tek that'd cope with much more than 10mm ...... the drill tip just loses it's edge

Ash and Lacy do ones for 12mm steel in their cladding fixings range and they do a good job. You need a good powerful high speed trek screw gun and they sink in good

I’ve just had some of these for stock, just a handy thing to have. I generally drive them with a battery impact gun.

these are the big boys, but twice the price before you stick a washer on them , but if you need them you need them!

and just seen a 6.3mm version that will go through 22mm steel! amazing...

cant use tek screws if its been specced by a structural eng. they specify what they want on the drawing.

depends on the location of the timbers usually and what the loading is likely to be on the fixings .... if just holding in place - nails, if loaded - bolts

This place haven't got a clue what they should be doing. No fastener detail whatsoever. Anyway the beast has arrived. Hilti dx450 with red caps and 62 mm pins

depends on just how they're loaded .... nothing like the shear loading of M12s @ 900 ctrs in a centre web say. But if the timbers're sat on the bottom flange ..... no odds as the nails're just keeping the packer timbers in place ...
