Rotary Laser Level - Where to start?

I’ve got the topcon hl5 and the good reciever that reads out in mm great for general Groundworks paving foundations etc

I’ve a boom mounted receiver but don’t use it, I check levels and can carry level through even on 20mx40m menages etc to within 100mm and if you shy on high side can then trim up.

if your cutting precise pads all day every day can see the appeal for machine control
Like I dig etc.

never really felt the need for dual grade tried altering mine for slope for drainage but in the end was easier to do it in head
Depends on your work but once you have got used to using a true grade you can tap falls into then there is no going back, my mate said for years he didnt need one despite me telling him otherwise, when his finally broke he bought a dual grade and daft bugger started to tell me how brilliant it was
I have Idig but it doesnt replace a good dual grade to work along with it.

Only used my true grade Fukada with machine mount receiver a few times but the benefits are obvious. Particularly for someone like me, who isn't much cop with a bucket

Really feels good to look back and see the patio base dig out on a gentle grade both ways, knowing that you won't be spending any more than you have to on stone or muckaway. If you do a lot of domestics then get the wall bracket with it, it's a godsend.

The Niv Comp is a different kind of level, but for general landscaping and small dig outs it's the dogs bollocks. I can't recommend mine enough and they're not stupid money for the time saved either.

Hi Russell,

If you have an LL300N with RC601 then the laser is definitely dual grade.

A good guide to setting slopes and gradients can be seen here:

https://www.laser-level.co.uk/pdfs/How to set Slopes (Falls,Grades) 7.9.20.pdf

If you are still struggling, call the Technical team on 08000 869 769 (option 3) and ensure you have the laser, detector and remote with you. Somebody from Technical can then talk it through with you.

Please note we are extremely busy at the moment and so someone will ring you back if they are not able to go through this with you when you first call.

Hi Brendan,

Typically, you would only read the mm/inch display on the CR700 when mounted on a measuring staff. When mounted on the plant using the magnet pack you would only really be using the cluster of super bright LED's to show too high, too low and level / on-grade.

Lights only show high, on or low if they were gradual rather than all lights on for high or low would be handy. I can see the LCD diagonal from the seat but would be handy to get a better gauge rather than just roughly pulling another 40-50mm

Oh I see - makes sense.

Fortunately you do have the HL760 as well so can use that as the in-cab relay if you are needing to also see the mm/inch values.

See this guide (refer to menu setting) in order to pair the HL760:

You treat him to one👍👍😂
hell I've already had two 15t loads of planings dropped round his place a fortnight ago .... he won't need a level to get them down flat
if he'd been closer I'd have taken a chance and tramped the 'Drema over to his place, but six miles of tortuous narrow lanes and one absolute half mile, bitch of a hill, was a trek too far . :( ... he got the boys from the local garage to drop him a 2 / 3tonner over for a morning .. he has special rates with them ;) and does a lot for them too .
