Rock Breaker

Hi there!
Looking for a rock breaker for my Take 1.7 ... Manufacturer says, can not run with quick couplers on the hoses for more than 10 minutes ... :unsure:
Do you know why?

It will be to do with the restriction of the quick couplers leading to back pressure in the line.

Sounds bollocks to me though, every 1.5t I've ever used with a breaker has been on quick couplings and been fine. Your machine should have a hydraulic oil cooler so I can't see any problems. If Tak minis couldn't handle a breaker for more than ten minutes they wouldn't be on every streetworks gang in the land would they?

In any case its not the digger which suffers if there's back pressure it's the breaker which would either not work to it's optimum or wouldn't work long without issues.

So the alternative to quick coupling is fixed hoses?
That would be a pain to put on and take off!

Or screw couplings. But all pointless just use decent flat face couplings- I like Holmbury.

Directly coupled hoses are a good choice for some applications, but a breaker on a mini digger isn’t one of them in my opinion, unless the breaker literally lives on the machine and it doesn’t undertake any other work, in that case it would make sense.

If you are worried about the flow then oversize the couplings. Fit the next size up on the return at least, could do the flow side to if you are concerned. Possibly more importantly, make sure your return line is free flow to tank.

the screw type still have poppets obstructing the flow ....as long as the fittings have sufficient flow rates they should be fine .... screw/FF,s or ISO A,s

Never had issue on my tb016

done days of breaking with flat face couplings and my mate runs a hire firm with hundreds of breakers all out every day on flat face couplings

just make sure you grease the chisel every 3-4 hours with chisel paste and you'll be fine

Outside my experience, but I'd guess low pressure and the shape of the quick connects would lead to a lot of cavitation resulting in severe oil foaming.
If that's the case, then oversize couplings would help a lot.

Bigger couplings is the way if your concerned, always had bigger on the 3cx with no problems, often did 10hrs solid on the breaker..
